I have been taking Lexipro 10 mg for 4 months now. It has been wonderful for my anxiety. But my Doc is concerned of the 15 pounds I have gained while being on Lexipro. He gave me a prescription of Fluoxetine 20 mg (generic for PROZAC). It was all I could do just to start taking the Lexipro, I'm sure all of you understand the anxiety in that. I am afraid of the symptoms of the anxiety coming back. Has anyone switched??? How will I feel??? Do I just switch right over from one to the other??? :confused: Any response will be appreciated....

Hope I can help ya out, I did the switch but I went from fluoxetine to lexapro. I think I was taking 40 mg of prozac and The problem I had with it is I couldn't sleep!!! I would go days without sleep, it made me very wired, it did help the anxiety though but when you don't get sleep you panic more, So I decided after being on the fluoxetine for about 3 months to try lexapro 10mg and I was on that for a good 6 months! I absoultely loved it!!! there were two negatives about lexapro, I did gain about 20 pounds and My sex drive went away. But I had no anxiety and I felt great! I just stopped lex 3 days ago to see how I do without meds for the first time in 1 1/2 years. I am planning to get pregnant so I really don't want drugs in my system but If my panic does come back I can go on lex again.
The switch from prozac to lexapro was fine, No side effects from stopping one and no anxiety. I hope that helped you. prozac is a great drug for lots of people and very safe( I did my research) It is unlikely to cause weight gain and actually I lost weight on it due to you losing your appetite for a while.

lexapro and prozac are the same type of antidepressant and I doubt there will be any effect on your weight

the apetite can be improved when less anxious causing you to eat more with weight gain

Thank you for your response. I think I will go ahead and try to switch to Prozac. My girlfriend takes it and said that it does give her more energy, and loss of appetite. Good luck with getting pregnant and getting off of the lex...

Thanks, I have heard that they are the same type. And yes my Doc did say that I would gain a little since the anxiety has subsided. But I have a constant appetite and crave anything and everything, so I think I will try the Prozac...

We can all blame the meds for gaining weight - but the reality is that you can't gain weight by not eating. It is the willpower that it breaks down. Build that back up and you can have the best of both worlds. No weight gain and a Med that will work.

Lexapro is a wonderful drug and I take a high dose of it and have gained ZERO pounds.
