View Full Version : So who's trying the MEP and what results have you had?

I started doing the MEP (Modified Epley Procedure) nearly 2 weeks ago. I have had BPPV and the ongoing after effects for over 3 years, with recurring bouts of violent spinning despite having 2 Epleys done by a physio. Doing VRT exercises, especially ones with quick head movements, tended to cause the severe vertigo to come back. Several people on this board recommended I try the MEP.

I'm not suffering the violent spinning at the moment so it's difficult to tell whether the MEP is having a major effect. Some days I feel a lot clearer than normal, but have had quite a few days when I feel quite "heady" and keep getting brief spins. Because I am at work during the day, I can only do the MEP before I go to work and then when I get home, I can't do one in the middle of the day which is probably the way it should be done. But as I said, I have had periods of feeling clearer so hopefully it's doing some good. I'm on a computer all day at work and with the visual problems I have, this tends to make me dizzy by the end of the day anyway so that makes it even harder to tell whether the MEP is working!

I'd be interested to hear how other people are going with the MEP.

Hi Julie,

I've never been diagnosed with BPPV per se but did experience a BPPV-like episode one night after having had labs for about 9 months. It was classic head movement stuff and caused immediate eye nystagmus. It went away within 2 days. About 5 weeks back, I started doing push ups and all the dizziness/anxiety returned but not like I had experienced from the first BBPV-like episode. Subs mentioned I should give the MEP a go anyway to see what would happen. After being continously off-balance/dizzy  for 2 weeks I thought why not. After 2 days of it, the haze started to lift and after about 6 days I was back to about 90% again. I can't be certain if the MEP sorted me out or if it was a coincidence but it *seems* like it did.

Cheers.....Scott

I have being doing MEP last couple of weeks. Can't do them three times a day as I do have residual dizziness after. It took some time, but the haze has lifted and I felt pretty good. Did one last night as I started to feel a little hazy again and did have spinning on right side again. I think they do help but I have also noticed if I lay flat on my back on the floor, I feel very lightheaded so I guess I have to just avoid that position. Computer work probably does aggrevate your situation. Hard to get away from work though. I started taking half an alka-seltzer after I do the MEP as I also had some nausea and it works great. Good luck!!
