I went on the pill a month ago, and I just got my period again yesterday. I was expecting to get it, but I was also expecting it to be lighter. But, like my last 3 or 4 periods, it's been SUPER heavy. I can't go anywhere. I'm going to call my doctor, but I just want to know your opinions. Shouldn't my period be lighter now that I'm on birth control? This is getting really frustrating! Thanks for your help.

You got to give it some more time. I know you dont want to but sometimes it can take a couple of cycles before you notice a difference in your periods.

Ok thanks, I've heard that before somewhere else too. Do you think it would be possible to skip my next few periods (by not taking a rest period from the pill), and by then my periods will be lighter? Or do you actually have to go through the heavy periods for them to eventually get lighter? Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

it might also have to do with what pill you are on. when i was on ortho tri cyclen, my periods were still 5-7 days and very heavy. one other pill was pretty much the same way but i cant even remember what pill it was, since i have been on so many.
i have been on estrostep for some time and now they are 2-3 days and very rearely have any cramps or anything.. and are very light.
my friend was on yasmin and has very bad periods, and she never had them before.
it might just take some time.. 2-3 months until you periods get lighter. otherwise it might be the pill your taking...

Thanks. I'm taking Ovral 21. I was on OrthoTricyclen but my doctor took me off it because it wasn't strong enough (not enough estrogen).

I'm curious, when your estrogen dominant, which the pill would make you, you have excessive bleeding. When I had excessive bleeding, the Dr. put me on progesterone. I was having 2 periods a month at 7 days or more. The progesterone helped with that too.
