Hi there-I am just starting lexapro and I was curious what some of the major side effects may be. Is weight gain one of them? I heard that it causes less weight gain than do some of its relatives (i.e. prozac). Is this true?

I have been taking Lexapro for over a year and have not had any side effects nor have I gained any weight. I feel tons better since taking the Lexapro!

Yay! That makes me really excited! Had you tried any other antidepressants prior to the lexapro? The only other one I've ever been on is Prozac. I liked it, but I'm hoping I'll like the lexapro even better. How has it helped you specifically? I'm so glad that it has worked so well for you!

Be very aware of any appetite increase. I ate the same as I alway had but I never felt full so I'd idiot eat and after a month , I was about 8lbs heavier. Sooo, good luck to you but stay aware

I did not gain weight while on Lexapro and it is a great med. But the side effects got to be too much. I felt like i was in a coma and i started to have bruses everywhere. Also my joints begin to hurt while i was on it and the withdrawl was horrible. DO NOT stop it cold turkey.

I have taken Paxil, Zoloft and Wellbutrin in the past. None of those seemed to help much, even when I added Xanax or other anti anxiety medications to them. Since I have been on Lexapro, I have had no side effects, and have had much less anxiety and I have noticed when I wake up in the morning I feel happier and more hopeful than I used to.

Hi-
Just wanted to put my 2¢ worth in. I took Lexapro 10 mg for almost 3 months. It helped my anixety and depression almost immediately, but the side effects!
I had constant stomach problems. I always had to go to the bathroom, either constipated or diarreah. I always had indigestion/gas pains. And muscle aches, and bruises. But the worse was my stomach. It was always gurgle -ing. You know, thoses weird noises.
And though, I didn't really gain weight, I dieted the whole time, and didn't lose any so.....
A friend suggested that I try cutting my pills in half, but it still didn't help the stomach stuff.
I finally did quit the Lex, COLD TURKEY. About two weeks ago.
I haven't had too many problems from stopping the medication, but I am really irritatible, and have no patience, but other than that, I feel better stomach wise. I may make a trip to my dr and try to get back on paxil.
But, my advice would be to try it, because every one is different. And it did help me. I just couldn't take the stomach stuff.
Hope this helps.
