I am on Remeron, have been for 4 weeks, however only been on the full 30mg dose for 3 weeks. I am interested in hearing from any other people who have used this drug for depression. I am finding that it provides an excellent nights sleep which is a huge bonus as I was on Citalopram previously and the anxiety that came whith this meant that my sleep consisted of approx 5 hours with the aid of Zopiclone.
I thought the Zispin worked overnight as the depression lifted almost instanteniosly... however within a week it was back. I think it was just my body adjusting to actually having sleep.
When I took Citalopram for depression 5 years ago it took 2 weeks to work slightly and then 4-5 weeks to work completely (back to normal me). The improvements were instant. With the Zispin I am better than I was on the Citalopram but am still a far way off from being back to my normal self. I read these threads about people having to try different antidepressants before finding one that works for them... is that one that works interms of releiving the depression or one that works in terms of limited side effects?
The side effects that I have (appart from the beneficial sleep) include dry mouth and carbohydrate craving in the evening.
I would like to hear other peoples experience on Zispin, how did it work for you? Was the improvement instant or gradual. I am finding that I have had a few days that are better than others, when I have one of these days I am like 'great this is it, the meds are working' and then the next day I am back down there again. Im hoping that this is the meds starting to work and are slowly creeping in.
I hope I have given a good enough back ground as to what I am experiencing... I would really appreicate reading other experiences from people who have used Remeron/Zispin.

Hi. I was on remeron a few years back. It worked great for sleep, but did little for my depression. For me, it took a lot of drug trials to figure out what worked for me. It can be time consuming, frustrating , and a hell of a long haul. It appears that a "cocktail" of three meds is most effective for me. I wish you the best in whatever you decide!

What drugs are you taking that work for you? I was on Citalopram that had become ineffective and Remeron whilst I was cross tapering and my depression lifted. Since taking out the Citalopram it came back and the Remeron does not seem to be doing much to me.

Hi Welshboy!!! For me, wellbutrin(a stimulating antidepressant), and lamictal(a mood stabilizer-which seems to work for resistant depression) has provided me with much relief. Like I said, it's been a long haul, but it's been worth it. Hope this helps!!

My experience with Remeron over a year ago was this: I wanted to sleep, when I got up I wanted to sleep some more. It really knocked me out. I wasn't on it long enough to find out if it worked as I was having trouble just staying awake and alert at work even on the smallest dose. No other side effects I noticed. If you can handle that it might be worth a try. Also, take it before 10PM if you plan on getting up the next morning :)
