View Full Version : Constant Ankle Swelling

My ankles have been swelling for the past 8+ years. It started when I was 16. Every once in a while I would come home from field hockey practice with really swollen ankes...but no pain at all. Over the next few years the swelling progressively got worse...and now my ankles are swollen CONSTANTLY...but never painful. I am only 24, at a healthly weight (~125lbs at 5'0")...and have no health problems that I know of. All of the doctors that I have talked to about it have told me to cut down on my sodium intake. But I never salt ANYTHING...and rarely eat processed foods...plus I tried a low-sodium diet (almost no change from my normal eating habits) and the swelling did not change. The other piece of advice I get frequently is to "keep my ankles raised"...well, that is VERY impractical considering I am an active 24 year old.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing my ankles to swell? ...or does anyone know of anything else I can try?
