Hey Everyone! I am going to switch to either Mircette or Alesse and was just wondering everyones opinions on these. Do you like them? Any side effects I should know about (ESPECIALLY weight gain)? I know that each pill is different for each person but I always like hearing other peoples opinions.
THANKS!!!

My friend was on Alesse for about 2 years. Her major complaints were weight gain, bloating, and mood changes. Not bad enough to make her switch though.
I'm on Desogen, similar to Mircette but more estrogen. No side effects and super light periods. I actually would like to switch to Mircette for the lower dose.

I'm on Mircette and I don't have any problems. No weight gain (actually I lost some) and I was only a little sick (no throwing up though) for the first two months or so. I used to have TERRIBLE mood swings and this has helped smooth things out. Can't complain about it!! :)

I was on Alesse for 3 yrs or more, and really liked it. I didn't gain any weight from it, and it stabalized my moods. However, in the last year or so I experienced spotting the week before my period. It wouldn't happen every month, but it was off and on. Nothing too serious, just more of an inconvience than anything. But just recently, I had an experience on it where I need to be switched off Alesse. I had my regular period and then a week later, I was having break through bleeding. It was like I was having a whole other period, except it was heavier than normal and I had bad cramping too.
The doctor, suggested I switch to a higher dosage, cause Alesse probably isn't strong enough for me anymore.
So, that's something for you to keep in mind. Most girls I've talked to experience break through spotting, because it's an "ultra-low dose pill". But I loved it when I was on it, but I guess you'll have to see for yourself.
Good Luck!

I've been on Mircette (Kariva is the generic) for years and love it. Lost a little weight, lighter, more predictable periods, and NEVER have cramps. It's changed my life. Of course, it's the only pill I've ever been on, so I can't say how it compares...but I do recommend Mircette as a good low dose pill.
