I really dont want to go to the dermotologist around this time of year my skin on my face gets really dry and red.
I have tried so many products that are over the counter, does anyone else have this problem?
If so what has helped???
My face is actually all flaky, it looks yukky and as soon as I get home I take off all make up and use cream, lotion I have even tried neosporin!!

In times of super-dry desperation, I've actually used Neutrogena "norwegian formula" hand creme (unscented). It's very thick and extremely moisturizing. I always had to wash it off after a while though, for fear of it making me break out (i have acne-prone skin). You could try that if you're not prone to breaking out.

Another option is jojoba oil or aloe vera gel. I use jojoba oil as a daily moisturizer. It's 100% natural, gentle, and has really helped my skin. Every once in a while, I'll slather a thick layer of aloe vera gel onto my face and just let it sit for a while, like a face mask. It's great, especially when you refrigerate the aloe before applying it so it's icy cold and soothing.

It sounds like you have eczema. I would recommend the following treatment that my dermatologist recommended that made my face a lot better:

After washing your face or showering, use Cetaphil cream (either the stuff that comes in a tub or the face-specific stuff, but I find the tub more effective) on your face before ANY other products. This stuff hasn't irritated even the very worst of my eczema (even when it was infected). I would especially do this before you go to bed, maybe even put a thick coat on (where your face is still slightly wet).

If it's itchy try putting on some over-the-counter hydrocortisone. People will tell you that it will thin your skin and not to use it for long periods of time, but I've used a prescription-strength version of this for over a year every day without a problem, though you might want to avoid using it on the thin skin under your eyebrows for a few days if you get them waxed because it can cause the first layer of skin to come off. (this happened once to me, it was like getting a small scrape)

Another item you might want to try that has helped me a lot is called shea butter. It will take about 20-30 minutes to soak in but once it does you will be baby-butt smooth. I put this on after the Cetaphil and medication because it's literally like butter and spreads strangely. I would actually recommend letting it soften/melt on your hand before spreading it on.

I agree with using jojoba oil - give it a try.

Vaseline petroleum jelly is awesome...it is pretty thick and not practical for daytime, but put it on at night before going to bed...it works great for me.

good luck
