Prevacid does wonders for me. it helps with that bile coming back into your esophagus and burning it. I havent been taking my prevacid ina month now, because i have been on a new medication for my insomnia and i dont think the two mix, so i am just going to not have acidy food and drinks. DRINK WATER!! NO SODA!! THATS BAD!! IT HAS PURE ACID AND THATS WHAT BURNS A WHOLE IN THE STOMACHE!! STAY AWAY FROM CHOCHALTE AND TOMATE SAUCES AND JUICES THESEARE ALL ACIDY> ALL NO GOOD FOR GERD!!! Prevacid turns off all acid in your stomach. thats why i like it. it also helps with heartburn. Christina

I agree. Prevacid is a great med! I have an 8yr old son who has suffered from very severe GERD his entire life. He has even had 3 fundos done, with very little improvement. The only med that has ever given him any real long-term relief is Prevacid. I am also on Prevacid for my own acid reflux, and it works wonders. I used to be on Zantac, but it never helped much. The Prevacid gets an A+ in my book!

No Chocolate? I thought it was GOOD for you? I LOVE chocolate! Is Prevecid
something you can take everyday long term? If not what's the longest that you can stay on it?

I've been on it for about 5 years so far. Still working.

I definitely have found that Prevacid works best. I started taking it 4 months ago, after Prilosec and then Nexium failed to keep my acid reflux under control. Once I started taking Prevacid, I realized that I'd still been having symptoms while on the other two, that I hadn't even realized were caused by the acid. However, I wish the Prevacid weren't so expensive.

Just curious... how long had you been taking the nexium? I've been on nexium (40mg) for about 3 months now and, at first, it worked great in reducing the symptoms. Now, however, many of the symptoms are coming back on almost a daily basis. I'm considering switching to a different PPI rather than doubling up on the nexium as my doctor has suggested.

Im on prevacid and it works so well for me that im able to drink soda, coffee, chocolate and pizza with no problem. Some ppl cant eat what i eat but then again some ppl can.You just need to experiment with different foods and amounts to see what you can tolerate and what you cant.Just because you have been diagnosed with gerd doesnt necessarily mean your going to have to cut out everything you like. The trick is in finding the right meds and moderation in what you eat .Take care.
