View Full Version : Meds....

I recently (May) donated my kidney to my son. I am having continued problems with thyroid now. I don't know if these two are connected, but since surgery I have gained 40+ pounds. Tests show first I'm hypo, change the meds, then I'm hyper, change the meds, hypo again. I am now seeing an endo, and not feeling satisfied with his ideas. Tenderness in the thyroid area and he prescribes aspirin 2 x a day for a week.

Since I only have one kidney, I don't feel comfortable taking multiple prescriptions. The docs know about the transplant, but I am now on levoxyl for thyroid, Effexor, an anti-depressant, vitamin d, (? forget the name) an appetite suppressant (given by the endo), prempro for menopause, there are 6 or 7 different pills a day and I still feel like crap...

The last thing I need is to endanger my remaining kidney. My question is, is there any possibilty of a correlation between the thyroid being so out of whack and the transplant donation?

I do not personnally think this is related to the transplant. You probably already had thyroid problems and didn't know it. Have you had your thyroid antibodies checked? TPO and I can never for the life of me remember the other one lol. Also ask for an ultrasound of the thyroid. The pain should be investigated. You may also want to find a new endo if your not getting anywhere with the one you have now.
I think thats wonderful that you donated your kidney to your son. I wish you and him the best! Take care, Lisa
