my mother went for six months without having a period, and then all of a sudden she got it but it has been going on for a month and she passes a blood clot 5 or 6 times a day the size of a large plum. she is 47 years old

She will probably want to see her gyn., but I wouldn't worry too much. I have clots too, and my gyn. said they were nothing to worry about.
