I am really nervous. Four year old dd has some of the signs I've read about. She urinates often (well, not that often, probably once every two or three hours) and seems to be excessively thirsty. She doesn' have fruity breathe, but sort of pungent breath. What is fruity breath anyway? I am not even sure what to be looking for. Finally, she has a sore on her face that has been there for over 2 weeks. It seems to be a dry patch. Other sores on her body heal quite quickly. Does it sound like she has diabetes?
We don't have insurance. Is there a way to home test this? Of course if it comes up suspect, we will go to the doctor, but if I could allay my fears through a home test first, I would prefer this route. Please, please advise!
thanks.

It's really dangerous to play doctor where a young child is concerned. After raising three children there is so many childhood malodies to be concerned about. One is kidney developement and nervous lack of control. Don't jump to any quick conclusions! If you feel it's really a problem that needs an answer go to the emergency room and inquire about medical help. There are a lot of people now a days that can't afford medical insurance. Swallow your pride and seek medical help!

I agree with Ron...at the age of 4, children are susceptible to many problems/complications of illness that adults are not. I would definitely have her seen by a doctor. She should be seen at least once a year anyway (maybe more often...not sure how often kids see pediatricians these days.)

Hi, I recently found out I had diabetes. I was craving sweets like crazy and loosing weight (10 lbs in one week), signs are different for everyone.
Anyways, about your little girl, do ya'll have a free clinic in your town/city? I bet if you called (pharmacy's and doctor's offices) around and asked about a free diabetes check for your little girl, they'd do it. Diabetes isn't something you want to chance.
Do you know any diabetics? If so they could check her sugar for you with their gulcose machine. I'm not sure what the control numbers are for children, but I bet you could find the numbers online.
Best of luck
