View Full Version : Not sleep walking, but sleep stripping?

I wasn't entirely sure where to put this, so I stuck it here.

During the summer one evening it was particularly cold so I threw on a second shirt over a tanktop, and also put on some flannel bottoms. I fell asleep just hunky dory, but the weird thing happened when I woke up - upon opening my eyes, I noticed that my second shirt and pajama bottoms were in a neat little pile next to my head. Somehow I got them off in my sleep.

Another incident occurred many years back when I bunked at my grandma's house. It was during the winter, I believe, and I went to sleep with socks on (which I usually do). But when I woke up early the next morning I saw a giant black spot on the bed next to my head. I realized shortly afterwards that the spot was actually my socks, bundled up in a clean pile.

.............

This is not a constant or nightly ordeal, but it's still pretty weird to me. Has anyone else ever experienced "sleep stripping"?

.......

Dark Stranger - wonders what else she does in her sleep O.O

My guess is that you just got hot while you were sleeping and woke up enough to take off and neatly place the x-tra clothing, but were still asleep enough to not remember doing it. I wouldn't worry about it.

LOL!! I do this every night!! I like to sleep with a blanket on, so I tend to strip off my clothes, rather than push the blanket off, when I get too warm. While I don't fold mine they do end up by my head. I guess I like to have them handy in case I decide to put them on again.

Hi Dark Stranger!

Well, this may be totally unrelated, but I thought it was close enough and funny to post anyway. I've always been one to talk in my sleep. Sometimes, when I was little, I would call for my mom, she would come running scared into the room, and I would be sound asleep. I know this is common. However, when I was really young, about 10-11, I had a best friend who would sing in her sleep! :D I don't know if any of you remember it, but about 10 years ago, there was a country song out called "Refried Dreams," and this was the song of her choice! We all do such funny things in our sleep!

Hope I Could Make You Laugh,
Hundtoft

My friend does all kinds of weird things in her sleep. I don't know if she ever took her clothes off while sleeping, but one night she went to bed in her pajamas and woke up in jeans and a bra. More frequently, though, she would just turn her light on in the middle of the night. She talks, too, and I have had the most interesting conversations with her in the middle of the night.

People do some weird things in their sleep. One night I took the pillowcase off of my pillow, folded it, and put in on the floor next to my bed. So don't worry about it. You are completely normal.

Haha. There have been a bunch of times where I've done strange things while I sleep - like switching from pajama bottoms to pajama shorts without even realizing it until I woke up. "I thought I wore those pants to bed..." LOL

I sleep walk A LOT & do a lot of strange weird things in my sleep .... my husband loves it cause it gets a kick out of telling me about it the next day =/ lol.

Anyhow, I've done plenty of sleep stripping & I've also done a lot of the opposite.... I'll wake up fully clothed in the mornings a lot .... :D lol.

Lately I've taken to running around hiding in the closet at night after I go to sleep ... not sure what it means, I'm sure it's got some kind of weird interpretation.... obviously I'm running from something! =)

I remember also when I was younger I would talk in my sleep (according to my aunt and grandma), and I had a thing for kicking in my sleep. My cousin can vouch for this; when she and I would spend the night at my grandma's house, we'd often share my aunt's bed (who was never usually home), and I would kick all the time, and a lot of the time my cousin would simply turn over and start kicking me back.

And I'm notorious for hogging the covers, throwing them on the floor, and then looking for them on the bed and taking ALL the blankets :D

..........

Haha, I wasn't worried about my "sleep stripping" - it just seemed odd to me. But thanks for all your advice, and your stories. I got a good laugh out of those replies.

My teenage son will kill me if he finds out I posted this but HE does this!! He also does other things in his sleep and never remembers come morning. He rarely talks in his sleep just gets up wanders around and then goes back to bed. Fortunately he's never left the house but it has been a concern of ours! He's got the ultimate excuse-- "But, I was sleeping..."

I do some strange things in my sleep sometimes, but not so much anymore. I used to be really bad when I was a kid though. I would get out of bed and go downstairs for a while to talk to my parents, then would just go back to bed. I still talk in my sleep. Also, I used to get up and roam around, and then just lay back down wherever. My parents actually had to look for me in the mornings. They even found me under the couch a few times :D

I am SO GLAD it's not just me!!!! :p
Sorry, I just think it's funny because I do the same thing and this is the first time I've heard of someone else having the same problem. I don't fold my clothes neatly, though. I just wake up completely topless with my sweatshirt thrown on the floor by my bed. And I have no idea how I got that way!! It's nothing to worry about, just a strange sleeping habit I guess! Needless to say, I always sleep with the door closed!! :)

hahahahaha! I'm sure boyfriends and husbands of sleep strippers absolutly love waking up to a girl taking their clothes off! It's like "Woah!! What have I been doing right??? What did I do to deserve THIS!!??!" hahahaha aww
I've been known to talk in my sleep.. Sometimes when I'm just dozing off I can catch myself.. lol.. But my MOM is the worst... She'll fall asleep on the couch while I'm watching TV and start yelping and whining and huffing... it's funny... We've videotaped it a couple times... and I regulairly take my socks off in the night. I even hung them from my lamp on night... I woke up and I was very confused... lol...

I've never really caught myself sleep walking, stripping, or anything...except 1 time....

I was really stressed out at work and wasn't sleeping very well. One night I was able to get to sleep rather quickly, probably because of exhaustion, and when I woke up in the morning I was freezing cold and wet.

As I opened my eyes I suddenly became aware that my shower was running. I got freaked out becuase I thought that someone was in my apartment and for some reason was taking a shower. Shortly after I got my wits about me, I realized that the clothes I was wearing were soaked and so was my bed. Apparently I got up sometime in the night, took a shower with my clothes on, and then went back to bed without turnning off the water. The best part of it was I still had shampoo in my hair....augh, what a mess that was. lol

I told my family and my best friend about my episode and man did they laugh hard. My mom told me that when I was little I occasionally got up in the middle of the night and did things while still sleeping.

Now, I just make sure that I get a reasonable amount of sleep each night and I try, as much as I can, to keep my stress level down. So far so good. :)
