I'm always finding posts about curly haired girls wanting straigtening methods...am I the only one who's HAPPY they have curls? I wouldn't like to have straight hair...who's with me on this?

(Nothing against straight-haired girls...you gals can pull off a lot of things we can't!)

I am also a curly-haired girl who loves her curls, but I think it all goes back to the grass is always greener... Sometimes (not often) I wish I could get my hair to straighten, but that's mostly just for a change. I wish I just had the option. Most days though I love my curls!

I hear you! I love my curls, and I get so sick of those unappreciative of what God's blessed them with. I spend about 3 minutes a day styling my hair. Wash, gel, scrunch, and go. And I get SOOOOOOO many compliments from so many people. I think alot of girls don't know how to make the most of their curls, and are too influenced by current fashion trends. But curls are timeless. Not to mention, since I said goodbye to straightening about 4 years ago, my hair has been in incredible shape. Heat appliances never touch it. I don't know why any curly girl would spend so much time, effort, and money to straighten it.

CURLS ARE GORGEOUS!!!!!

I wish I could enjoy my curls, but my hair is just stupid lol.. The top layer is wavy and underneath it's curls. The top layer won't curl no matter! If I somehow manage to get my curls to look good, in about an hour's time, it's a total mess and really frizzy. Maybe if my hair gets longer I'll be able to wear my hair curly more often. I'd sure like to! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Rachel, how long is your hair now? I have noticed that the shorter I keep mine, the better it curls. Mine is kind of opposite yours, curlier on the top that on the bottom. But it is just above shoulder length now with a good layer cut, and it curls really well. Do you have layers? That seems like it should help the top to curl. It makes sense from a gravity point of view that shorter hair has more spring to it. Just a suggestion, and good luck.

I have naturally curly hair, although I have long hair and do not want to cut it short, and plus my hair goes "poof" short. It still poofs when it is long, I can't blow dry it, or just let it air dry and go.. I have to air/blow dry, flat iron, etc. My hair doesn't work at any hair style other than this unless I put it up wet. It really takes a long long time to get my hair decent looking. My hair isn't very shiny either. I just want beautifuly long curly hair, or straight hair! Not poofy, frizzy, dull, really wavey hair! Does anyone have hair like mine and has used frizz ease? I would really like to see how that stuff works since everyone keeps talking about it.

Queeny, I really liked the results of Frizzease. What I did NOT like, especially when it was longer (My hair has a severe frizz tendency) was the amount of the stuff it took to actually work. That one drop instruction was a load of crap! Needless to say, with my hair extremely thick, curly, and frizzy, the Frizzease got a little too expensive for me. I have switched to a similar product (but cheaper) called Zero Frizz that also has the whole line, serums, gels, laminates, etc. and I REALLY like it a lot. You can get it at Walmart or drugstores.
Another curl secret http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif that you won't believe (and I have tried every product out there, from drugstore to salon) is Rave 2X Smoothing Gel. This stuff is incredibly cheap, I think under $2, alcohol free, and really fights frizz and shapes curl, but leaves NO stiffness, crunchiness, or stickiness. The only downside is that it makes your hair take forever to dry. But I'm an AirDry girl anyway. Good luck!

My hair now is a little past my shoulders. When I had short hair, I'd get triangle head because my hair was so heavy on the bottom.

How can I scrunch my hair and get that top layer to be curly also? How can I make it last and lose the frizz? I want to wair my hair curly someday rather than going through the long process of straightening..

I don't know if this will work for you, but this is what I've found (after several years of experimentation) makes my curls work the best. My real secret is to use 2 different styling products on wet hair.
1. Use a good moisturizing shampoo/conditioner
2. Wrap in towel to get out excess water, but DON'T rub. (it makes it frizz) Squeeze instead.
3. Use a detangler if needed, comb through with a pick.
4. Use a small amount of serum or defrizzer and pick through again to make sure it's evenly distributed. This will seriously cut down on all over frizz.
5. Then I kind of finger tousel it to separate, and use a good mousse (I LOVE Loreal Springing Curls) all over, scrunching it in.
6. Then I take the towel and scrunch with it. This helps get rid of excess water and styling product while scrunching way better than your fingers. Start from the bottom and work up, kind of scrunching in sections. This always helps my stubborn wavy places curl.
7. Last but definitely not least, air dry, and hands off. Don't touch or pick while it's drying or frizz will be right back. I also don't brush my hair or comb it unless it's wet.
Hope this helps! I used to straighten and know how time consuming it can be. This may sound like alot, but I swear, it only takes me 3 minutes!

I couldn't stand the long hair anymore so I had it cut today. LOL, 10 months without a haircut was starting to get to me! They cut 5 inches off. I don't know how I'm going to try making this curly.. but I'll somehow.

I have straight hair but wear it curly all the time. My hair is very long. After I wash it I put gel in it then I will spray sections with a scrunch spray, then I use a diffuser connected to my hair dryer and do sections at a time. After I do my whole head I go around and spray and diffuse each section one more time. when I am done I use a tiny barrel curling iron to do the top sections of my hair and spray with hair spray sparinly when the hair is still in the curling iron.

It sounds lke alot of work but it's really not. I get so many compliments on my hair all the time. I had to find the right hair spray to find one that will hold my curls. I use sally hensens 'beyond zone' freeze spray The stuff is fantastic for holding styles.

Yeah... it's a clear gel in a clear Rave bottle with a green top. It's really just a regular hair gel with very little "hold." It reminds me to the touch of the lowest hold Dep gel, but it works alot better.

I have very curly hair and I wear it curly most of the time. Sometimes I like to straighten it and the only product that does wonders for me is "Phytodefrisant" from Phyto. It will make your hair straight and it will stay that way for days. LOVE IT!!!

wow! i didn't realize how many people go natural! i used to straighten my naturally wavy/curly hair everyday, and it was wrecking havoc on my hair. Now i just wash and condition my hair w/ suave products and towel dry. then i genorously apply suave frizz-control gel throughout my hair and scrunch w/ a towel. When it's damp, i spritz in L.A. looks curl defining spray and scrunch some more. But my hair does the opposite of most. My hair is very curly on top, but underneath it's straight! Does anyone else's hair do this and how do you compensate? thanx for ur time

Hi bargainshopper. My hair is the same way, very straight underneath, which of course makes it look like it's not cut even because it looks like I have these longer pieces hanging down. I usually just wind sections around my finger like for a pin curl and clip them while it's air-drying. After about a half hour, I take them out and it's curled like the rest.

hey abby, that's a great idea! has anyone ever done their entire head in pin curls? how did it look? i'm thinking about trying it, just for an added boost to my super wavy hair.

Hi bargainshopper - I just replied to another person asking about pincurls. I've done almost my whole head - top, sides, and top layer in back (the rest is already very curly). I do pin curls because it frizzes some and the pincurls smooths it. I also have to pin curl the underneath section like abby because it's sooo straight underneath that it looks like my stylist missed some. So I curl those too so it matches the rest of my head. But like I told the other person, I have to put the dryer on the curls when I take them out because I have all these ringlets, which are too curly for my age, and the heat from my dryer relaxes them. And then I just finger tousle them. Try it some time when you have a half hour to kill....Good luck.

My hair isn't really curly, wavy or straight. It's stuck somewhere between curly and wavy. Meaning I have enough curls to make it almost impossible to wear down, but not enough to have that cute Keri Russell look, lol. It's terribly annoying. I am always looking for either straighteners or curling irons. Trying to make it one way or the other, lol. Anyone got any advice for that?? Love to hear it http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

hey stefa23, your hair sounds alot like mine! to try and make my wavy hair really curly, i usually load in the gel and mousse, but then my hair ends up really crunchy when it dries :-(. i've been looking for good products to use that have good hold but don't make my hair so crispy. so if anyone has any input on any product out there that does that, please let me know! thanks
