View Full Version : Bumps on face?

Earlier today I noticed some red marks on my 14 month old's face. I thought he'd just scraped it a little bit and didn't give it another thought. However, as of this evening they were pimply looking. Red circles with little heads on them that looked like infant acne that newborns get. There were probably 4 or 5 of them and they were all in one place. Right around his left cheek bone in a little patch. But then later, I noticed more red marks like the ones I saw this morning in the same general area, just spreading out a little.

I'm wondering if it's acne, but it all being in a patch makes me think 2 things. Chicken Pox or contact dermatitis. The thing is, he hasn't acted sick otherwise or seemed to run a fever or have any other viral sypmtoms. He's not had the chicken pox vaccine because he's not old enough yet, but I wouldn't know for the life of me how he could have got it. He's only around other kids at church or playing outside (we live in military housing), and I'm not aware of any neigbors kid's who've had it. Besides, aren't most kids vaccinated now days? Anyway, I guess we'll know in the morning if it's chickenpox or not!!

If it's acne or dermatitis, what's the best way to treat it? Anyone had anything else like this?

It could be a few things...1) it could be from spit when he sleeps it may seep down his face and the air hitting it may cause it to get bumps, it may soon appear closer to his mouth. It depends on how he sleeps. The other is clogged sweat glands. When you wash him use a wash cloth gently on his face and see if they clear up. He may be sweating and it's not coming out which will cause it to look like a pimplish area. Does he spit on his hands and touch his face? He may be irratating it. I know this sounds so simple but you would be surprised how sensitive their little faces are. My kids are 4,3,3. I think I have been through it all. lol

Well, he woke up this morning with them all over his body. We're taking him to the Ped. to rule out anything more serious than chicken pox. I'm kind of worried because I'm 13 weeks pg. I did have chickenpox when I was 3, and had a pretty bad case, so chances are I'm immune, right?

Hello! My daughter had that but all over her body and they told me it was heat rash and that I couldn't do anything about it. It eventually went away. One thing to know about chicken pox is that they are pimply (but so is heat rash) and they start on the trunck (chest area) and the hair line.

I know my children AFTER having a virus/cold.fever they would get a rash all over their body. Nothing major it went away.

There is also fifths disease. Which almost every kid gets. Thats something to be sure about since you are pregnant. Usually their cheeks get really red (its also known as slap cheek fever) but the rash doesn't show up until after the virus has ran it's course. By the time they have those signs, they aren't contagious anymore.
