Antibiotics only fight bacterial infections. Colds are caused by viruses, and an antibiotic will not do anything but increase the amount of antibiotic-resistant bacteria running around out there.

unless you have a secondary infection such as a sinus infection, chest infection, laryngitis...etc. The above can seem like a cold when they start, or can happen from the result of the cold congestion or picked up while the body is compromised (assuming it's still a cold).

Go and see your doctor, don't start the meds unless your doctor prescribes it.

to add onto the last persons comment, if the doctor tells you he doesnt think u have a bacterial infection but is going to prescribe you antibiotics anyway, question him because practices like that is why we have many serious drug-resistant bacteria running around killing people.... if he insists then take them and be sure to take them until they are all gone even if u feel better :) good luck
