I started taking BC on 8/17 the day after I started my peroid for August. I was told to take this pack of Estrostep FE which is a 28 day pack. My gyno told me to take these all the way through (including the placebo pills) but when I called her nurse she told me to only take all of my white pills then go & get my next pack of pills and start them-so I did. I then started my peroid on 9/15 and I was supose to have quit on 9/21 but today is now 9/27 & I have been spotting off & on since then. My peroid was not very much for this month. But I am worried. I am getting married 10/16 - the problem is that I am scheduled to start my peroid if it goes like August on 10/15 (THE DAY BEFORE). I called the dr.'s office the other day. She told me to finish the white pills I had up which will end on 9/28 (I will take the last one in this pack ) then I am to start a new pack on pills (once again skipping the placebo pills). She told me to take 2 weeks of these pills & then stop taking them. She said that when I started them back after I get back from my wedding & stuff ( I will be gone for 2 weeks) then I am to just start them back as usual & then I will have my peroid. She told me to use a back up BC - does this sound right or do these people not know what they are talking about? I am not going back to the dr until 10/11 which is just 4 days before I am scheduled to start again. So will I be regular for my Wedding Night or is there something else I need to do? I am totally confussed. I have asked my Mom & she took BC but didn't have to try & plan around her peroid for her wedding. This is very embarassing & upsetting. Because this is my Wedding Night & I am really looking forward to it. Does anyone have any suggestions?? What do I need to do, or is there anything that I can do?? Please help me.

I skipped a period by taking the first 21 pills of my 28 pack of BC but skipping the placebo's and starting a new pack the very next day, it's during the placebo's that you get your period. I have known people who tried this and still had spotting anyway. My best friend had her period on their wedding night but it didn't stop them....I have had sex during my period too, it isn't as fun, but it is possible...I would recommend doing it in the shower if that's the case, less messy that way. Goodluck...and yes...use another method of BC to be safe. Congrats on the wedding!

HeY yeah I skip or delay my period during ANY important event.. and pretty much just like kierrasmommy! I am on YASMIN and the dosage is the same for each pill.. so i will skip the placebo pills and therefore miss my period. other times if i want i can just make it come later by taking the pills from the NEXT back.. then taking the placebo pills.. i can do the same thing to make my period start EARLIER.. but i never do it more than a week earlier. No need for it.. and since the pills are the same it's OK if some of the first pills are used already.. it's pretty easy to do! good luck!! i hope you figure everyhting out and have a great wedding!! :)

By taking all the pills execpt the placebo pills you are keeping yourself from having a peroid right?? Did you ever have any breakthrough bleeding?? As I have wrote a couple times now, I don't think I started my peroid this month I have just had a little breakthrough bleeding - some one day & then none the next. Did you ever have that happen??
So I guess the main thing I am trying to find out is, if I go ahead & start this new pack of pills tomorrow (skipping the placebo that will be left in the pack I am on now) and then taking 2 weeks of this as my dr.has told me to & then going off the pills & using a back up BC will I get my peroid?? Or have breakthrough around 10/16- Just as I have said I have been totally confussed by everyone I have talked w/. I just want to fix this & be able to enjoy my honeymoon (all 2 weeks worth) - If you or anyone else has any info that might help me I would greatly appreciate it. As I have said I am taking Estrostep FE, so if there is another another lady out there taking this pill like me - Please let me know how you have done with this. I am just really stressing myself out about this & would love some advice or some instructions as to what to do if there is anything!!! Thanks so much!!!!

Hi again,
I personally have never had breakthrough bleeding but have known a couple women who have...but because it's much less than a period it is better in the long run. I'm confused why you would have to go off the pills at all, unless you plan on getting pregnant soon afterward? I took all 21 regular pills, skipped the placebos, and started the next pack the very next day, I continued the pack as normal and got my period at the end of the second pack during the placebos. Hope that made sense...start the new pack, and just continue as normal, after the placebos (and your period) just start a new pack as normal. This would mean you would skip a period (possibly may have spotting) but get your period the following month. I would think by going off the pills half way through like your nurse told you, you would be even more likely to get pregnant than if you continued like I explained...you'd still need to have a second method of birth control either way but because you would be completely off altogether with no pills...you'd have a higher chance than if you were at least taking the pills still...plus I would think it would mess up your hormones being on one week off the next then on again....any one else agree or dissagree?

Ok I think what you are saying is making way-more sense than what she told me. (this was one of those ask-a-nurse people that answer the phone for the dr.'s office). I started my peroid in August & was told to start my BC for the 1st time the day I started my peroid. So I did. I had it like usual - mine ever since I 1st started has never been more than 4 or 5 days (sometimes only 3 or 4). I took all the white pills in my 1st pack and then went right to another pack (skipped the placebo) Then on 9/15 I had a little bleeding. Not much. I used a super tampon, but had to go to my regular ones (the others that I had bought thinking I would need them had more absorbancy) & were too much. Like I said I have had off & on bleeding, not much at all for the past few days. But anyway tonight I will take my last white pill (of my 21 day pills) and then the nurse called me in another pack of pills. Which I will start a new pack of 21 pills tomorrow (night, I take mine b4 I go to bed) anyway. But as I was telling I skipped the placebo last month, and then I was told to skip the placebo I should be starting tomorrow (that would have given me a peroid, right? ) and then take 2 weeks of this new pack that I am going to be starting and then go off them. ( I DO NOT WANT TO GET PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) But you think that if I start the new pack tomorrow as she told me (skipping the placebo in the pack that I am going to finish tonight) and then go ahead & take them up till I go & see my gyno on 10/11 that I will probably skip my peroid or just have a small bit of breakthrough?? I believe what you are telling me makes more sense. My fiance & I were talking Sunday & there are other things we can do to where we can have sex on our wedding night. I am not a virgin but he is (and is 22yrs old) & I know this sounds cheezy but we have been dating for a little over 2 years now & decided to wait until our Wedding Night to have sex & I just don't want to disapoint him or ruin this for either one of us. So I am going to take your advise - I will start the new pack tomorrow & go ahead & take them. As I said have a dr apt on 10/11 & will speak w/my gyno then. But what you are telling me makes so much more sense, because I DO NOT WANT TO GET PREGNANT!! If you or anyone else has any more advice I am totally open to it!!! Thank you so much

I have never had breakthrough bleeding either... but it IS a common side effect, but usually does not last more than the first couple months or so... my doctor told me to be looking out for it.. so it is very common. I didn't get spotting when I skipped my period either. Wait.. kierrasmommy I can somewhat confused about the going on one week and off the other... I have never done that but I am sure that is too quick to get your period anyway.. but sometimes when I take a few (like 1 or 2 maybe) of the next pack just to delay my period it is OK since my pills have the same dosage.. but if they are NOT.. then you can't do that!! is that what you were talking about..??

No...I don't think she should start then stop then restart....that's what her nurse told her which made no sense to me. I was saying that going on off and on again may make her system totally whacky. I think she should start the new pack (skipping the placebos) and go right through to the end of the pack. I also don't know why they started so far back, you could have had your period last cycle and just skipped this one closer to the wedding...I wonder if that would increase your chances of spotting considering the lining isn't being shed for so long???Not too sure about it...but yes, skip the placebos, and start the new pack on the very next day (night for you...I take mine then too) same time that you would be taking your next pill at, and continue as normal...at the end of the pack if you are ready for your period, take the placebos at the end of that pack and you will get it....if you don't want it skip the placebos and start a new pack again...be prepared for a heavier period when you do get it...it may be a bit more than normal. I would maybe call another Dr.s office or even a pharmacy and see what they say to be safe, but this is what I would recommend...and have known other women to do as well as myself. Hope that made sense???

I have gotten so many opinions. I asked a my boss here at work, there are 3 ladies here in our office & we are all pretty close. I asked her opinion. She told me since I was just having a small bit of break through bleeding to go ahead & take my last pill in my pack tonight. Go ahead & get my new pack tomorrow & start it. She told me to take a full week of those and then on Wednesday of next week (which is the 1st day of when I started my BC- she called me a Wednesday Starter) she told me to go ahead & start my placebo pills which will cause me to have a peroid up till the following Wednesday (the week I get married). Then she told me to go back on my white pills after I take the placebo's & get a peroid. She said that way I "hopefully" won't have any problems w/ breakthrough bleeding. Then that way when I get back @ the end of October I can get ready to start a new pack & then do placebo's again for my next peroid. All of this advice has been very helpful. And then talking w/her in person helped me to. So I think this is what I am going to do. If anyone else has any suggestions I am open to it. Thank You again so much!!

I agree with kierrasmommy. I think you should start the pack tomorrow like you planned up till the placebo pills...before you start those, start a brand new pack from the beginning. This will cause you to skip your period. The next time you will get your period will be the placebo's of the second pack. I certainly wouldn't stop the pills all together, you would be at a tremendous risk of getting pregnant! You may have spotting (I did when I was on Estrostep...I hated that pill) but it's better than a full blown period! Good luck getting this all figured out and congrats on the wedding!
