I just have a quick question for anyone who has tried skipping periods before..

I've been on the same contraceptive pill for about 3 years now and several times I've tried skipping periods by not taking the sugar pills. For some peculiar reason this has NEVER worked for me, my period always came without fail on the same day as normal.

I've fairly recently gotten a new boyfriend so I thought I'd try and skip it again, there's no harm in trying right? This time it actually HAS worked. My period was due yesterday and it still hasn't come.

Should I be worried considering it has never worked before? Or should I just be happy that it finally has?

Thanks for your help.

:)

I just tried this with Ortho cyclen to help control lupus flares which occured with my periods. One thing is that if you're using a triphasic pill like orthotricyclen, you will not be able to successfully skip periods. Plus the pill you use needs to be a certain strength, for example some low dose pills may not be effective. Also when my gyn started me on this plan I did it for six weeks first, then nine weeks, then twelve to see if my body would tolerate it, but it was a gradual thing. My gyn also said that if I had breakthrough bleeding I was to take two pills a day for five days to stop it. He also mentioned something I thought I should pass on... not everybody can do this, your body knows what it needs to do and it wants to do it so sometimes as much as you try, it just doesn't work. I hope that info was helpful. I'm not sure what type of pill you were on before when it didn't work and what kind of pill you're using now but you may want to take that into consideration if they are different. Good luck! Oh I also thought I'd mention that a potential side effect of doing this can be decreased libido.

You don't need to worry about any dangers from it. They have done many studies and have found no dangers in skipping your period like that. People will disagree mostly some women because they think it is just not natural but they have never actually found a danger to doing that. I have used Yasmin continuously for endometriosis for about two years now. I let myself have a period about every 3 months. I would go longer but I start spotting after 3 months and it won't go away until I let myself have a period and then I start taking the pills again every day. It did take about 6 months for the pill to actually work to control it. I spotted quite a bit off and on during those first 6 months. Now it works like clockwork.
