I just started today (day 18). I was just diagnosed earlier in month with a small fluid cyst on right ovary--that should absorb on its own. I am not nor have I experienced pains. So they said they would recheck it in Dec. and now my period is here again 18 days later. i also had 2 in july. Is this due to the cyst? Dr. said I'm too young for peri. I will be 44 in Oct.Any thoughts?

Hi,
Yes, I have had periods that come at day 18 , not often but a couple times and it all started in my mid 40s. I am now 50 . I guess every doctor is different but my gyn said when I was 44 and 45 that by the very fact of my age I was in Perimenopause, it is the time before menopause and can last a number of years depending on the person.
I don't have any experience about the cyst personally but I have a friend who had one and it did go away. I would ask the doctor about the fact that you got your period early and see if it is related. It could be or it could just be the start of irregular periods which are a symptom of peri.
My history if it will help you is that I began to have irregular cycles on and off at around age 44 or 45 with my once very regular periods that came every 28 days coming earlier...mostly day 24. But as I said I have had a couple then and now come at day 18. My flow also changed and got less around that age. My cycle has pretty much stayed the same where it comes every 24 days but I have had times last year and this year when I have not got it until day 40 or day 50. The gyn said it is all normal and consistent with peri. It is frustrating as even when it comes at a later date I still have annoying PMS symtpoms up till that time. Not every month but sometimes. My worst time this year was Jan/Feb and most of March. Then it seemed to get better as far as symtpoms but now and then, like this month I am having a lot of discomfort due to it being due (day 25 today) and I wish it would just come. It is that pressure feeling one gets before hand and achiness and just feeling yucky!!
Anyway, I am sure there will be a lot of people in their mid 40s on this board, who can attest to the fact that they are definitely in peri, so you are not alone.
Take care,
rmc

I have had 28 day cycles, 29 day cycles, 31 day cycles and now a 20 day cycle. You are not too young to experience peri- menopause and a hormone imbalance. I don't know about the cyst, but I do know about irregular cycles and a host of other weird things.
