I wonder if anyone else is like me. I'm 53, and I had my GB removed when I was 24. About a dozen years ago I noticed it was becoming more and more difficult to digest fats, that is, during the day!! I have no appetite during the day, I only eat to keep something in my stomach, as I'm also prone to reoccurrences of ulcers. I eat ONLY carbs during the day as fats make me soooo nauseated. But oddly, as my appetite increases by night, my metabolism apparently revs, too. And I can tolerate fats!! It is so strange! I have had enzymes checked, I even had a gastric emptying test, no one can figure this out. So, if anyone else is in any way similar, please share with me your situation, what was done, and if you're better now. Thank you!!

That sounds similar to my 80 yr-old mother's occasional symptoms. Hers came out about 20 yrs ago, back when they cut you open. Sometimes if she eats something fatty like fish & chips when we're out for lunch, it tends to go through her rather quickly. It doesn't keep her from eating too much fat, though, especially late night at home. I was pretty worried about this before I had my surgery, but the doc said it wasn't very common. Had mine out laproscopically on 9-11-01 (talk about a surreal day!) and have never had any problem in that regard.

Hi Melissa -
I was sipping coffee when I started to read you post and almost choked when I saw the comparison between me and an 80 year old. LOL Nooo!! It's OK - ot just struck me as funny! I FEEL like I have an 80 year old digestive tract!! So, maybe I don't have IBS after all - maybe it's because the fats are leaving...um...too quickly from my body.
Anyhoo, she doesn't have any nausea, then, when she eats fats? That's the biggest problem for me - I can't even have eggs or pancakes during the day, as they will lie on my stomach for HOURS, I will belch them forever and they will cause terrible nausea. Does she have this problem during the day?
Yep, I was one of those who had my GB removed when it was still major surgery, a 7 inch incision, drains for days...YUCK. And did I say massive pain??? :) I was fine for about 20 years...now this. I am just so tired of it.....Anyway, thanks for responding.

Char, I am 39 years old, had my gall bladder removed laproscopically about 2 years ago. I didn't have stones, just a poor functioning gall bladder--I was nauseated after I ate anything--but especially fats before the surgery, and now even after the surgery. I don't really notice any difference as the day goes on......It is sooooo frustrating. The nausea can be crippling--but normally passes after about an hour or so for me.
I also still have soreness right under my right ribcage as well.....
I have seen the physicians many, many times--they can't find anything wrong, but I know it is related to the gall bladder problems etc.
They finally diagnosed "functional dyspepsia"--I am sure it's because they couldn't find anything else wrong--its a vague diagnosis--can't really be sure what causes it.
Anyway, I understand the nausea and how it can ruin parts of my day because I attribute it to something life threatening....the doctors have assured me it isn't and that it's something I will just have to live with.....
