I know, it's strange, but has anyone ever had acrylic toenails put on? A couple of weeks ago, I banged my toe and it broke my toenail on my big toe down really far and I had to cut it extremely low. It looks awful now and next week I am going to a lake with friends for a week-long vacation. I have nice looking feet and always paint my toenails. My nail is so short it would look bad if I painted it. It will take forever to grow out, I just want to get through sandal season. My question, do nail salons do this and how much does it cost? I only want to do the one toe.

I haven't had acrylic on my toenails, but I have had a gel overlay put on my toenails. It was great! They have colored gels that grow out as your toenail grows. I did this for the same reason as you - I stubbed my big toe and and the nail split down really far. My esthetician suggested the gel overlay and it worked great! :)

Oops, just re-read your e-mail message and realized that you wondered about applying an acrylic tip to your toenail. I don't see why this could not be done provided they make a tip that will fit the size of your toenail. Even if they don't, maybe they could sculpt a nail for you - nail techs do this on fingernails so I don't see why it could not be done on a toenail http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/idea.gif

I would imagine this would be a bad decision. You need to let you nail grow out and breath, and heal. You don't want to add to any damage that has been done to the nail bed. To do this you will add to the possibility of it grow back deformed. I personally wouldn't put anything on it.

If it is really far into the skin or you have flesh exposed, then I wouldn't (you wouldn't want to risk getting it infected and losing your nail) but as a nail tech myself, if there is no broken skin then it would be fine to do it. I have done my own just to see what it was like and they looked great...and on the price it really depends on what area you are in, and if you have all your toes done or just the one....I would say between $ 5 to 7 for 1 toe....but like I said it really depends on where you are....if it is a big town then you might pay more. Anyway best of luck and have fun on vacation....hope that helps

One of my friends has been doing this for over a year and loves it. She has never gotton an infection or anything. It is perfectly safe. Her toes are always so cute.

I got one. It only cost $5 and took less than 10 minutes. My skin was not exposed, my nail was just extremely short. I painted my nails when I got home and you can barely tell the difference. Thanks!
