View Full Version : How do they check for gallbladder problems?

I was talking to my doc the other day and she was explaining something to me that I have now forgotten.

She was talking about a test that checks gallbladder, liver, kidneys, etc. but not stomach. Would that be a CT scan? I think that's what she said but I'm not sure...

Does the endoscope and upper GI just check the esophagus and stomach? I'm not sure if I mixed up what she said.

The reason I ask is because of this sorness that I feel constantly under my ribs. I also have nausea and a tightness or lump in my throat and a gagging feeling on my tongue. Could this be related to my gallbladder? The feeling in my mouth and throat is really taking a toll on me because I have it all day, every day!

Hi there - you may mean ultrasound as the test you're describing. Endoscopies will not tell the doctor about your gall bladder - only the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. But an ultrasound can look for gall stones or tumors on the GB, liver, kidney, etc. Your doctor may also order a hida scan which checks the function of the GB.

Your symptoms could be any number of digestive disorders, e.g. GB disease, GERD, IBS, etc. Only your doctor can figure out for sure.

Good luck and keep us posted,
Katie G
