The measurements are called units. Lantus doesn't have a peak so you won't feel it working. Lantus does sting more and can make the site sore in my experience.

The side effects for Lantus are the same as any other insulin. Risk of allergy both local and systemic and hypoglycemia. I would call the Dr's office and get their advice but it doesn't sound like something you should worry about where diabetes is concerned. Good luck

Sunnybear,
Is this the first time you've been on insulin? Is it possible that, with all the stress of this change, etc., you got very tensed up, physically? If so, that may be why you're feeling like this, and it's possible a good night's rest and some relaxation exercises (breathing, meditation, etc.) might actually help.

I don't think the stomach pains necessarily correlate to where you're getting the shot, but I've been wrong before, lol.

Yeah, tension will do a real number on your body. It's no fun being told you have a serious illness for which you will have to take shots for the rest of your life, but we've all been there, and most of us manage to eventually accept this as an annoying, but necessary, part of our lives.

It's also possible that you've also got a bit of a stomach bug, and it could be just coincidental that it happened right when you started on the insulin. Give it about a week, and if the stomach problems don't get better, let your doctor know.

And feel free to talk about your feelings on this board..that's what we're all here for!

I am going out on a limb here but I have pricked a nerver before and the area been sore afterwards. I think you would know it though as there is a pretty intense sting while giving the shot.

I used to get so psyched out when giving shots. I would tense up and it would become this huge ordeal. The best trick I learned was to remember to breathe through it. Holding your breath seems to make it hurt worse.

Stress in and of itself can cause stomach troubles. I wish you the best and hope you get to feeling better

thanks everyone. ive been diabetic for 6 years now type 2 and just been on meds the whole time till now. i might not need the shots for the rest of my life (i hope). just my meds are not doing the job good anymore.
ive been on glucatrol, actos, avandia, now taking 4 mgs of amaryl twice a day and was on metformin 500 mgs 3 times a day, i called doc this morning and she took away one of my metformins and upped my dose of lantus to 20 units. i guess she thinks the metformin is making me feel yucky and i think so too. my sugars have been over 200 most of the time for the past couple weeks, thats why i went to see her. well im hoping i start to feel better soon.
