Hi allI posted this earlier on the stress section but I am so disturbed by it that I would like to see if someone else has an opinion or if it has happened to any one else - I am really bothered by this.
I am very concerned about something that has recently started. I keep dry retching. The doctor had it down as a result of a bad cough I had had, but now the cough is gone it is still happening. It has happened 8 times this weekend. What the hell is causing this? I don’t feel ill otherwise, just a bit nauseous but it is beginning to affect my life – it happened in a meeting at work this morning. I don’t bring anything up. I suffer from stress and anxiety so could this be related? I am also emetophobic so this sort of thing is very unwelcome and very scary.
I have also lost my appetite - although I am hungry I just cannot bring myself to eat anything.
Please help
Thank you
Lisa-Jane

Hi there,
I've not posted on this section of the board before but thought I'd reply to you.
There may be many reasons why this is happening but I've had exactly what you're describing with anxiety. When my anxiety was really bad last year I was dry retching many times a day.
I hope this helps, take care,

Oh heavens. I am emetophobic too! I had dry heaves all night for two nights in April and ever since then I've been feeling sick almost every day. I ALWAYS feel as if I'm about to gag or throw up. And it scares the heck out of me. If I take Ativan it helps which makes me think it could be anxiety in my case. But supposedly Ativan also helps nausea so maybe it just helps for that reason. I really have no idea and no doctors have any answers for me but I feel for you because I'm going thru something very similar. Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing.

Hi, I know this may sound odd, but are you by any chance on a pain medication called Ultram? I have been on this for my Crohns pain in the past, and it causes those same symptoms, right out of the blue, and it gets SO bad, that I sweat, and have racing pulse, etc... This also causes horrid band-type headaches that just wont quit. These symptoms only occur after having been taking the Ultram for more than a couple of days tho.
Hope this helps, because if it IS the Ultram, just stop taking it. :)

Thank you all - no I don't take ultram - I'm not on anything at the moment. I'm trying to relax and not think about it and concentrate on other things - when my minds not on it it doesn't occur - but when I'm reminded of it then I start to feel it building up in my throat. I gues it must be stress - but I feel as if I'm going mad.

Thank you for replying in my other post. I kept making posts about that feeling because it is bothering me so much but nobody seemed to be experiencing that same thing. I can't believe how similar we are. I can also feel it building if I think about it and then I get panicked. I really can't tell whether it's my anxiety or my digestive issues. But probably a combination of both!! I just know that it's awful and especially for people who are scared to vomit. Thinking about it and gagging is almost just as bad as actually vomitting for me. I get very worked up. This has been constant for many months now and I too feel like I'm going crazy! PLEASE keep me posted on your condtion!!!
I don't know if this will help you or not but when it gets bad for me I chew some strong mint gum like Dentyne Ice and it seems to take some of the yuckiness away. But that might just be a mind over matter thing for me because I've been doing it since this started so it's like a comfort thing. But try it and see if it helps!
The fever thing is just a mystery.
