I have had my 24hr tmj splints for two weeks now and since day two have had constant tension in my face. At first I accepted this as the muscles stretching to where they were supposed to be. Now I am not so sure. To make matters worse I just started 37.5 mg of Effexor to alleviate my constant anxiety. Three days into it I feel like the tension has gotten even worse. Is this possible? Can tension caused by the Effexor and or continuing anxiety negate the benefits of the splints??? My ears are also popping every time I swallow. (This was happening before the medication and increased dramtaically when the splints therapy began.) Clearly this is very annoying and although the ear ringing has disappeared I feel as if I have merely switched one bad symptom for another.

PS: The splints I had made were designed by Dr. Jennings in California. He is a TMJ specialist with two offices dealing only with patients with our problems. The combination of the two splints given to me have pulled my jaw and bite forward considerably. The change in my profile has been awesome but I am not certain it is for the best.

ADVICE PLEASE ??????? Thanks guys

Can't advise on the splints, but have you done the research on Effexor? I had a bad time the first time I took it, and wouldn't try it anymore. I've heard that you have to give the medication atleast 6 weeks to start working. Do some research about it though, as from what I've read, it is hard for some people to get off of, bad withdrawals. I've read the same about Xanax though, and I have no problems resisting popping a Xanax. Just want people to be aware.

I have the crackling, can't pop my ears feeling as well. And the ringing in my ears drives me nuts.
