I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or good products for thickening hair. I used to have thick hair, but do to my low iron level, it got thinner. It's getting thicker, but still looks rather thin on the top of my head. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Game over. I had to accept the fact that in life some women are simply better and no amount of shoes or lack of pastry or making of pies will change that. I will never be the woman with the perfect hair who can wear white and not spill on it and chair committees and write thank you notes. And I can't feel bad about that.

My hair has got thinner due to my low iron level too. I took a good iron supplement and about 3 grams spirulina / day. (You can take B-vitamins instead of spirulina.) But it takes at least three months till you see first results. And it took about a year till my hair returned to the normal condition.

It's just when you have low iron level and take supplements your body uses it first for more important things than hair. Your hair is the last thing that gets "repaired". So be patient.

I forgot to mention, that topical products normally don't work. It has to come from inside.

Most products only coat the hair shaft giving you an illusion of thickness. Using these products again and again end up weighing down your hair and it looks lifeless and yuk. I suppose you could use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of the build up. I've never heard of a great product otherwise there would be people posting on here and raving about how wonderful a particular product was.

As the previous poster said, using vitamins is probably the only way to go as hair health comes from the inside and diet, genes and your general health play the biggest role in how your hair looks.

I agree with Audry - it has to come from the inside out. I also had so much hair years back that people nick-named me "hair". Now it's so thin and threatening to the female ego as well! I've been taking Silica 500ml 3xday, 1 tblspn of Omega 3 oil, iron and copper for the last three months and have seen an improvement already with the texture, no regrowth yet, I have to give it time http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif . As for topical solutions? I use Paul Mitchell extra body mousse (works!) along with "Thicker Fuller Hair" shampoo and strengthening treatment spray. Hope this works for you!

i have used bumble and bumble thickening spray. that works really well as a topical solution.

flax oil/flax seeds/ EFA consumption is supposed to help. i recently started eating more EFA and more protein in my diet for the past 3 months . my hair is growing fuller and faster but i'm not sure if its because of my diet.

also, a product lined called nioxin that my friends have used and swear by. i'm going to try this.
