juicy28 06-22-2003, 03:38 PM what are ingrown hairs? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif Sponsor deliciousmess 07-03-2003, 12:19 AM Ingrown hairs usually occur when you shave or pluck body hair. When the hair grows back, instead of growing straight up and out of the hair follicle, it curls back into the skin as it is growing. These hairs often cause tiny little infections where they are located. Ingrown hairs look like little red bumps, and often itch. Sometimes they will contain pus, and other times you will be able to see the ingrown hair curled beneath the skin. You can prevent ingrown hairs by exfoliating (rubbing skin vigorously with a rough object, such as a loofah in the shower, or towel), by applying an antiseptic substance to the problem area of skin after hair removal, or by using a different method of hair removal, such as waxing (although this can sometimes cause ingrown hairs, too). If left to themselves, ingrown hairs will usually grow out and heal themselves. Audrey-B 07-03-2003, 07:30 AM Even with exfoliating they often don't come out and don't even get infected and puss up, instead i'll get the odd couple who just want to stay submerged under the skin and they keep growing and can be seen ever so slightly beneatht he skin and will only come out if picked out (those are the worst). I believe i've read some where that there is a product called "tend skin" which is supposed to be good at preventing ingrowns. |
