Just curious..... The endo doctor had me get a fasting two hour blood sugar test done (he said I had symptoms of diabetes). After fasting-before the glucose drink- my blood sugar was 118....does anyone know what the range for these fasting levels are? I was also looking over some bloodwork done on Monday-and it said my glucose level was 128. I know its a little high-according to that test-but, its not real high like some people I know (my dads is in the 400s). At what level do they classify you diabetic?
Thanks,

Signs/Tests for Diabetes:
1. Fasting blood glucose level > 126 mg/dl
2. Non-fasting blood glucose level > 200 mg/dl and accompanied by thirst, polyuria & fatigue
3. Oral glucose tolerance test > 200 mg/dl after 1 hour, > 200 mg/dl after 2 hours. Ie no reduction in blood GLU.
4. Urine GLU > 0.
5. Acetone breath.

Anything from 110-125 on a fasting blood glucose test is considered to be "impaired glucose tolerance" and is a precursor for diabetes. The good news is that diabetes can sometimes be prevented by following a diet and exercise program.
If your Monday test was also a fasting bg, then you definitely have impaired glucose tolerance and possible diabetes. What were your glucose levels at the 1-hour and 2-hour post-drink times?
Even if you're not diagnosed with diabetes at this time, you may want to add exercise into your daily routine and ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietician to discuss proper eating patterns.

Ladyshy,
Sounds like you do have impaired glucose tolerance, but not diabetes (yet). This can be (and should be) managed with diet and exercise, and you can prevent the onset of diabetes by taking care of it now.
