Hi everyone--
I'm looking into a different kind of birth control. I've been using the pill for several years now. I keep hearing something about a Nuva ring (hope I got that right) and I"m wondering what it is and how people like it. I would love to try IUD but I need to not ovulate as I have a high propensity towards ovarian cysts which require surgery because they don't break on their own. I'm just looking into if there are other options available especially if it's something I could even try for a few months to see how I handle things being off the pill but I definetely need to prevent pregnancy and we hate condoms. I thought I also might add that I've had a really hard time with my libido the past little while and I hate it so I wonder if you might feel comfortable remarking on how IUD or nuva ring affected that in particular. Thanks for your help and advice!

Hi,
I well today my doctor just gave me a free Nuva Ring. It is a very flexable clear ring that you fold in half and insert it as far back as you can in the vagina. You will not even know that it is there. You leave it in for 3 weeks and take it out for one week and that is when you get your period. It is a estrogen/progestin just like the combonation pills. I just put it in today (Firday) so I have not had any side effects. {removed}
As far as the IUD goes I am trying to look into getting Mirena{removed} . It is a IUD the releases a hormone (not sure which one) and it claims to be as effective as having your tubes tied. It also lasts for 5 years.
I aslo get ovarian cysts so I have to be carful about the birth control that I use. I am 25 and have a 4 yr old and a 7 month old, my husband and I would not like to have anymore children but we are still young and don't want to jump into anything permanent.
You should check out those websites and find out more. I hope this helped. Let us know what you find out. :wave:

you can also try a depo provera, its a shot you get once every 3 months. Don't have to worry about anything like forgetting to take the pill, or knowing you have some foreign object inside of you for 3 weeks. For the first 6 months of use you will be so screwed up with your period and stress and whatnot... but the more you take it, the less you will even see your period and the more other side affects will disappear. Usually after the 3rd shot you will be normal and hey, no periods.

I use the Nuva Ring, and I love it. I don't have to worry about missing a pill, I don't even have to think about it except for the days I have marked on my calander to take it out, and a week later to put a new one in. It is very comfortable, I don't feel it at all. You can keep it in for sex, or take it out for up to 2 hours. At first my husband didn't like the idea of keeping it in for sex, but we tried, and he doesn't mind it now (although he can feel it). As far as libido goes, I am breastfeeding and also on Prozac for depression, so my libido is barely there anyways, but I don't think the Nuva Ring affects it much. My periods are also very light, but that might be due to breastfeeding as well.
