Hi, i have been having symptoms of hair loss, extreme irritability, stress, depression, so had some tests, came out like this.

hb 10.8 units g/dl

hct 31.7 units %
normal values
mcv 80.3 units fl

mch 27.3 units pg

platalets 380 units x10 6/ul


wbc 6,7 units x10 6/ul 4.0-10

iron 74 units ug/dl 49-151

ferritn 6.0 units ng/ml 15-250

help please!! why is my iron ok, but ferritin low? as the ferritin is low, shouldnt the iron be low too?

The hb is a little low.. 'normal' levels start at 12. Ferritin is your stores of iron... my doc told me that once my hct levels got above 35 my ferritin levels would go up. When I first had mine done my ferritin was 3 but my hct was 32, so yours is lower than mine was. Just remember to take your iron!

thanks for youre reply, i am taking iron now, floradix, a herbal one, supposed to be easier onthe stomach, i still dont understand why the feritin is so low, is that anemia? when i was pregnant my hb was 7. also my mother has pernicoius anemia, as did her mother , is it a hereditary condition?

is the herbal one really better on your stomach? I have a really hard time atking the ferrous sulfate because it hurts my stomach.

hi twiz, well, its just been 3 days since i started, but so far, so good! i also take a plate of all-bran with prunes every morning and i find that helps too, plus these 2 things also have iron. julie

Thanks Julie.. I'll have to try that out.. I usually try to eat prunes with the iron because I don't like the idea of taking fiber in a pill or stool softner! Just doesn't seem natural, or healthy!

imjust wondering......... while i was pregnant, my youngest child is 9 months old, my b was 7 but ferritin was 3 0 something, then i had a c section, could this have caused the ferritin to go really low? maybe i lost a lot of blood? i feel really bad, really depressed, sad, hopless, deparied, dont knopw how much of thi is due to medical issues or th e fct i have 6 kids, 1 with autism.
