I had a leep done in may for severe dysplasia. I just went back a few weeks ago for my first follow up pap/colposcopy. I just got the results today, both the pap and colposcopy showed severe dysplasia AGAIN!!!!!!!!!and she said that the dr. recommended another leep. THE FIRst time i had my leep was just in the office, so I asked if it would be possible to "go under" this time, ( It really wasn't so bad the first time, the worst part for me was the shot, it made my heart feel like it was going to bounce out of my chest) I also asked if a cone would be better this time, and she said i already had a LEEP cone done. ( I thought they were 2 different things) is there a difference between that and the cold knife cone?
MY other question is: did it come back that fast or did they just not get it the first time?
any recommendations. any other options. I am going to talk to my doctor again tomorrow before i know what i will do for sure.
this sucks. And what about the wait it out method???
I just had the leep done in may, that was only 4 1/2 months till my followup pap and colposcopy.
Has anyone else had any similar experiences???
ANy help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

I'm sorry you’re going through this! Maybe he missed a couple of areas. my doctor told me that the smallest little area a pap will pick it up.

Yes I would diffidently ask or discuss for a stronger procedure

Did your doctor get clear margins after your first leep. If he didn't, then this might be the case why you still have severe dysplasia. I would ask if there was clear margins. Also, did you have an ecc (endocervical curettege) done to show if you have dysplasia further up in the canal area. Also, another possibly could be that you might have a persistent strain that can cause severe dysplasia. This can happen if your immune system is weak. Make sure you take vitamins and not smoke(if u do).

HI, my margins weren't clear the first time, and yes i had the ecc, and that was clear. (also I am trying to boost imune system, although i thought i was pretty healthy as far as lifestyle---never smoked too)
I am going to have the 2nd leep done, but this time I am not doing it in the dr's office, instead I am going to be put under. I have to go to the doctor on tuesday for a consultation first.
thanks

Well, I tell ya, I had a cone in May for Severe Dyslasia and I have told them if my next pap/colp comes back bad, I DEMAND a hysterectomy. IF they dont want to, I"ll move on....
I'm 43 no need for the "parts"....and no need for constant threat of cervical cancer....
I say take it out take it all out...
(for me)

skf33, did you have your pap/colp since your cone yet? if so when will you get results?
I know how you feel, this is all so annoying. Its more of an inconvenience than any thing. Although I am still not so sure if I want more children or not. I have a 4 year old so far. I am 30 years old. I am really curious if anyone has had severe dysplasia after a leep or cone, and waited it out. THis whole hpv thing confuses me a little. I understand that you have the virus forever, it just "flares up" . But then I also read articles saying when you have some of these procedures it may interupt the hpv and start building antibodies against it. So if your immune system isn't fighting it off right now , I wonder why they always want to treat you right away, instead of waiting a little while longer, until your immune system boosts up on its own.
sorry for babbling on. this whole thing keeps me going some time. i just wish i had a quick easy answer for all of it, but instead too many 'what if's"
thanks

Hi ktdid,

I just got news from my doctor from cone procedure last week and he told me that my margins are clear and that he got all the severe dysplasia out. He did tell me that there were two other lesions that were in the cone biopsy but he was not aware of it from the colposcpy and the one biopsy I had.

So you might have residual lesions that were not seen and removed. I would definately go for another leep.

Hi.
No I'll go back for my repeat pap in november.
But, like I said, if it shows up not to my liking, I'll be changing doctors.
I dont feel like playing games with this kind of thing.

I had an EC scrape and it was negative.

I'm hoping for a good pap, but, I'm also not to hip on them, I think a colp is a much better diagnostic tool....

We'll see what he choses.

I'm not sure i'm liking my doc to much at this point...

HI, I just got back from my dr's appointment today. she said that the results of this last colposcopy showed the displasia in a different [place than where it was on the positive margins of the leep. so she is thinking that it is residual, because she thinks that it couldn't have grown back that fast to severe dysplasia. I go to have my second leep on nov 2. hopefully that will take care of it....
