Hi!! :D
Weeeell, this is my first post. ::bows!!:: I read some of the articles and some of your replies; you all seem to have so much good advice to give, I thought I'd come to you all with my question! :D
I'm wanting to get my hair highlighted. I have medium/dark brown,layered hair, about at the end of my shoulder blade, and was thinking about red highlights...Somewhere close to a wine color. :) I also thought about a second color to put in there, too...Maybe a carmel or copper color. Anywho, I want cha'imput on that, por favor! =) I know the stylist can give me good advice, but, y'know, the more the merrier. :D
I went to my regular hair-dresser and she wouldn't do it because of the length of my hair...She onli does it with "the cap" (lol, you all know what I'm talking about; I'm not sure what it's called =P)and that would hurt if she plucked my hair through there http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif I want chunky highlights...Do they do that with foils?...She also told me of a "weave" technique they do...I haven't heard of that before.
Well, thank you all in advance for all your repliiiies! :D
::hug!!!:: Bye!

Hi there!
I just wanted to let you know that for years (ugh!) my hairstylist used the cap way of highlighting my hair. The results were great as far as the highlights, but yes, it was painful and yes, it's really bad for the hair. She was an older lady who I believe still used methods from the "old school" which isn't the way to go now.
My new hairstylist only uses the foil method and I am so thankful. It costs more than the cap way, but my hair looks good and is in much better condition. As for your colors, I don't see why an experienced stylist couldn't do what you're wanting with the foils. I would never use any other method again.
Good luck and hope this helps. Linda

Hey just got my hair done last week and love it! I started out w/hair length at just at the bottom of my shoulder blades too... My hair color is a med dark brown, and the texture is fine but I've got a lot of it - so not much body!
My hairdresser does what she calls a "hair painting technique" as apposed to the hair bleaching.... She uses a color instead of the bleach.... I got caramel highlights and she used the foil.... I've never had the cap done so don't know anything about that, but think that I wld prefer the foil; since, with it the color wld be all the way to the roots instead of just now and then.... But check w/your hairdresser about the "hair painting technique" it takes just as long as the bleach, but isn't as harsh! And, you still get a little boost of body..... Hope this helps! :wave:

Ah hate the cap! lol, made tears come to and fall down my eyes. I use foils. I recently got a full head of highlights. I suggest you don't go for the red, only because it eventually oxidizes and turns to a different color....like salmon yuck lol. But, usually that happens when you use a straightening iron because it burns away the color. I suppose if you let your hair dry naturally (which I don't) the color should stay, or at least a bit longer than my red streaks I had done last year did.
