For the first day that my son went to Early Childhood Center (School based special needs preschool) I shed a few tears, but I knew my son was in good hands. If I remember right he did fine (that was 5 years ago)

When he started regular kindergarten, I was fine and he adjusted well. We were fortunate enough to have a teacher that was somewhat knowledgable in Autism and was very loving and caring towards special needs kids.

Since starting school, he has come so far. He is able to do a lot of the things that kids his age can do, which is much more than I ever thought he would be able to do. One of the big obstacles that we were able to overcome was his ability to tie his shoes.

I remember when I was young, my sitter making me sit at the table until I could tie my shoes, I basically did the same thing for him, instead of the table it was a room and he could not leave the room until his string on his pj's was tied. I think it took him about a half hour or so to get it down. He still can't do it fast, but he can do it and that is all that counts.

Enough rambling! I hope that I have answered your question.
