Is anyone familiar with this terminology? I've read several different things about this and not sure what it means.

koilocytotic atypia describes a viral feature seen on cytological (pap smear) examination. Also called venereal warts or Condyloma Accuminatum.
Seems to be more prevalant than even Herpes, nowadays, and not easily irradicated. Once the virus is present, it may wane and then return, wane again, return - never fully disappearing; it is also contagious to the partner.

On my biopsy it said "koilocytotic atypia suggestive of HPV". I've just had my pap redone. It came back normal and my HPV was negative again. I've had 2 negative HPV tests. My biopsy said it was suggestive of HPV I wonder how that can be. My doctor didn't find any warts or anything of the sort. I'm a bit confused by this all. I'm just glad the pap came back o.k.
