View Full Version : Diet seems to be working

I thought I'd share my experience (in the most limted detail as I could) to see if others could benifit from it. It may not seem totally original but it did seem to work for me. I'm a 29 year old male (6 foot tall) who used to be very active in my early college years but ended up gaining weight mostly from having a sedentary lifestyle from work.

I was one who never trusted weight loss in a pill. When the Epedra base pills were on the market, I avoided them like the black plague since I'm somone who deals wiht anxiety on a day to day basis so stimulants just won't work for me.

The common miconception is if you're looking to loose weight, you just exercise and you're fine but really it's mostly your eating habits that will make or break your success. Exersise is secondary. There were countless times when I was told that as long as I kept up a healthy and continuous exercise routine that I would loose wieght gradually without worrying about what I'm eating. Um no.

Typically mt diet each day consists of 5 small meals a day.
1. Protien shake. Non fat milk (or Soy milk), bluberries, strawberries, Whey protien, rasberries, a little Splenda, and flax seed all blended.
2. mid morning, 1 peach
3. lunch- small salad with spinach, garbonzo beans, brocholli, tofu, olive oil and balsamic. I used to make my salads too big and then I shrunk them down. Just because it's healthy doesn't mean you can over eat.
4. mid afternoon snack - apple or fruit or sometimes these low calorie jellos with fruit in them.
5. dinner- sknless chicken and steamed vegies.

** I drink water ALL day. Sure I ended up using the restroom a lot but I drink water water water.
**I also eat slower! Makes a difference since you don't overeat. Ultimatly, you eat for purpose, not for pleasure...just what you need. I also have GERD (which is going away from the weight loss) and eating slower and smaller amounts REALLY helps this too).

I exercise on either on my lunch hour or after work with 35 minutes a cardio a day with 10 minutes of weights then on weekends, I ride my bike about 30-40 miles on Saturday and Sunday. (If I workout after work, sometimes I do 50 minutes of cario...there's more time). I usually take one day off (usually Friday) to recoop and not exercise. There is a problem with exercising too much when dropping weight and you really need to let you're body recopperate.

So far I've dropped 25 (240 --> 215) pounds in 3 months. No stimulants. And I feel better. My goal is 195 (set by my doctor). I'm already starting to look great too, I can actually start to see my abs which I haven't seen in years!

One thing to note, I was worried at one time that there was something wrong with me since I wasn't looking weight but I was just fooling myself in thinking I was eating right and exercising enough. It's all about finding a routine and just sticking with it. Once you do, it gets easier and you'll loose weight around 1 to 2 pounds a week.

Hope this helps some people and I apologise if this is repeat info for people here. Just wanted to let people know that it's always possible, I was one who really didn't think I could loose wieght anymore and almost lost all hope but did. :)

Good for you and continued good luck. I, too, remember being startled by the first look at my long buried abs...it feels so GOOD! (and then I went and buried them again, alas! Workin' on getting them back!)

It's always so much more interesting to read a post like yours than
one asking about a new supplement called something like
"Dietrex-Zoom3 EFX Special Formula" that's guaranteed to take off 14 pounds the first hour and only costs $149.95 for a bottle (plus $14.95 S&H) :D!

Thanks dave! thats really inspiring to me because since ive had my gym membership(about 10 months now) i have been working out at least 5 times a week and haven't lost a pound(gained weight actually). I did what you did and started looking for my real problem and realized it was in my eating habits and realized that i was using working out just so i wouldn't feel bad to eat what i wanted. Ive been eating alot better than i used to now but i also have to remember that it takes time and patience(something that is hard for me to accomplish) to get what i want! what do you do when you get a sweet tooth?? does the jello help at all?

I drink water instead or have a fruit. That tends to work but overall, it's never really easy. My sweet tooth isn't that bad and if I stay away from sweets for a while, I kinda forget about them. Plus, there are a lot of small little sugar free candies on the market (some made with Splenda too!) that could really help appease that. The jello and fruit snacks also work yes and are small low calorie snacks (90 calories).

I've tried the three bite rule where you take three bites of what you are craving and that should cure it... but three bites turns into a full meal so that doesn't work too well. i think im gonna try the splenda candy and jello. thanks again dave!
