My husband had numbness in his left hand. He can now feel his hand but he says that it is very weak. Also he is experiencing trouble walking. He says that his legs feels like rubber. He has trouble with his memory too. Could this have been caused by a mini stroke. He had a cat scan done on his brain but it came back normal but his sister-in-law is a RN and she says that he has all the signs of a stroke. If not a stroke than what? Thank you.

Hi, From What I Have Read About Strokes Since I Had Mine(massive Stroke). It Sounds Like He Had A Mini Stroke. I Think They Call It A Tia Or Something Like That, Which They Say Leads Up To A Major Stroke. I Think He Should Get A Second Opinion From A Neurologist If He Hasn't Seen One Already, Because Trust Me, He Does Not Want To Go Through A Full Blown Stroke Like I Did. I Hope Everything Works Out Fine With Him.

I have no medical training, but my late husband had several strokes, as well as TIAs. Yes, those symptoms definitely could be symptoms of a stroke. That's not to say they couldn't be symptoms of something else, too; I wouldn't know about that.

How soon after the initial symptoms was the CT scan done? As I understand it, it often doesn't show up in a CT scan right away; it might take several days. Pass that by someone with medical training, but that's what I seem to remember from one of my husband's hospitilizations. I would definitely recommend further evaluation.

I hope the doctor has some answers for you tomorrow. Yes, I'd be suspicious of the possibility of a stroke or mini-stroke, too. Hopefully, the doctor will find that the symptoms are from something less serious. But try not to let yourself get too stressed out before you see the doctor; excess stress could lead to additional problems. Just make up your mind that you'll deal with it when you know what you really are dealing with. And if he has no answers, find another doctor.
