hey everyone. does anyone know if having a temp thats not 98.6 degrees is bad? mine is normally in the 97's which i thought was fine. however my ENT told me that since i'm not at 98.6 degrees, my thyroid is working too hard and blah blah blah. i'm so confused.

i don't know about any problems with regard to having a lower than normal temp, but mine and my sons normal temps are usually right around where yours are and I can't say that we have had any major issues with it.I think that some peoples temps are just like that.marcia

MIne is usually around 97.4 degrees. Someone posted this question on the fibromyalgia board and a lot of temperatures ran in the 97s. You could check the board archives. It was about a month ago or so.

Some people normally have a lower body temperature. It is possible, though, that you could be hypothyroid. That also causes fatigue, weight gain, etc. You have a good doctor to pick up on that. If you are having no other symptoms you could ignore it, but if you have insurance, why not get it checked out? They can do a blood test to check the thyroid function.

well it started with an esophogram, which showed a deviated esophaugus. then the ultrasound of the thyroid, which showed it was slightly enlarged on the right. i dunno, i'm just lost, lol.

It definitely sounds like a thyroid problem, then. Get a referral from your ENT as to what to do next, but you should get the blood tests and stuff to find out what's going on.

I agree with the thyroid thought. Most doctors tell me that my low body tempertatures don't matter when it comes to thyroid - so you're relatively lucky so far.
