Can someone tell me what the digestive enzymes are for? Are they supposed to be given in conjunction with a special diet or can they be given to a child who is not on special diet? Do they come in any other form besides pills that have to be swallowed? Do they cause any side effects?

I think they are supposed to help break down lactose and gluten in people who have an intolerance against them - unlike allergies, intolerances are not direct reactions to the substance, but are triggered because the body can't digest them quickly enough. Specific enzymes to break down lactose or gluten can help speed up this process, and can mean that a reduced diet works even if a full exclusion isn't possible or comfortable.

Hi,
If you look up Kirkman laboratories or Houston Pharmaceuticals they would explain it. After biological tests, it is found that some children's bodies do not produce certain enzymes to help their bodies break down certain proteins which can cause learning disabilities, etc. [ removed ]
