Hi...I am 46 yrs old, and lately my periods have become shorter (2 days) and real varied...anywhere from 17 days to 32 days.....Last month my period was only 2 days and light...This month I really had no period...I had some spotting for one day and then about a week or so later, I have had some spotting now for 2-3 days, not even enough for a pantyliner....I am wondering if this is normal for perimenopuase or if I could have cervical cancer? I dont have any pain or anything, nor after sex...I am going for a pap test on Monday....Just wondering if anyone has had these irregualr periods/bleeding symptoms? Thanks!

hi nance, i dont think that this is common with cervical cancer, but it does sound hormonal or maybe the change???? usually thats the first thing that comes to mind when someone has irregular bleeding is hormones......i have read so much about female cancers that the one thing i have always heard was when it comes to bleeding, not bleeding isnt the thing to so much worry about as it is to be bleeding all the time.....i hope this helps..

Intermittent occasional spotting can be a symptom of endometrial cancer. Other symptoms could be spotting after intercourse, a slightly darker than normal vaginal discharge, or crampy feeling. These of course are also symptoms of peri-menopause, that's what makes it difficult to detect endometrial cancer in its earliest stages if it develops prior to menopause. It does not show up on a PAP smear. However, Uterine ultrasound or a D&C are used to diagnose this condition. The actress Fran Dresser? (tv show the Nanny) spent a year going to doctors before getting a correct diagnosis. She wrote a book about it that can be gotten from the library. If you have a family history -parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles who have had colon cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian, breast or prostate cancer, it is a possibility that there would be a greater than average chance of developing it. I was lucky my periods had already stopped for over a year before the occasional spotting started, so I knew something abnormal was occuring.

Hi,
I have not had these symptoms ad I am in my thirties, but my good friend at work and my best friends mother both are going through perimenopause and their periods were very erratic and unpredictable.
Do you have any of the other symptoms, nightsweats, etc?

Yes, I have alot of other peri menopausal symptoms, night sweats, insomnia, moodiness, anxiety, depression and alot of others...I went to the doctor and she did a pelvic exam, said everything including the cervix, looked and felt fine, but dont have the pap results back yet....I am worried though now about endometrial cancer, as that doesnt even show up on the pap..I am wondering if after i get the pap results and they are normal, should i see a gynecologist and have an ultrasound or something done, or wait to see if it continues to happen (the spotting)...It has only happened this month and this is the month that I never got a real period..
Thanks!
