hi ev1, I'm new here. I just have a few questions. I worked it a special Ed. preschool program for 5 years. I have seen all types of autism children. Since my neice was born, it'll be 6 years this November, she was not developing appropriatley. My other sister and me were concerned, but my other sister(its her mom) just tends to not get involved and blow things off. Her speech was delayed, and till this day she talks very fast, and is hard to understand, she does this swaying , rocking motion on her feet, although they are very bright children, and she is. I've mentioned it to my mom alot, and she just seems to think its adhd, but they're are so many concerns I have that somethings not right. Could you tell me alot of the signs for autism. I really think it is, not a severe case, shes enrolled in kindergarden now, so I'm hoping shes been evaluated, we tried to talk my sister into this a while ago...But she would'nt, because she was at a home daycare and the owner said she was fine. But shes a very busy child, into everything, and you have to watch every move, no pain tolerance, shes hurt herself and does'nt seem to bother her at all, very unsocial, talks very fast, hard to understand, and does swaying motions, thankyou for any input.....oh yes her pediatrician said shes just a hyper child, some kids are more active than others??????????????????????????????But he doesn't have a great rep around here...

I am a mother of an 6 year autistic child. I cannot express the importance of getting a proper evaluation with a pediatric neurologist. The proper diagnosis means the proper therapies and school environment. Leaving it to the school system to evaluation is a waste of valuable time. The signs you describe are autistic characteristics. Hope you can convince your sister to do what's best for the child.

thank you, I've been trying everything, shes really the oldest one in our family too, just in denaial, and I think because her home daycare says she was ok for 2 years, and her doctor says she just hyper she is fine with that. I noticed since she was a few months old signs of something, she just wasn't developing normally, and I have 3 kids of my own and don't compare but you know whats developmentally appropriate for a certain age or not. SO I'm hoping, people tell me that also the school can overlook it, due to the clasroom size, teacher etc. thanks for the input, i'm still trying,,,,,,,,,,,,Leigh
