OK, I have just started charting but don't know what exactly the temping charts should look like. I have been up and down and up again and don't know if that is normal...I looked at the example chart they had enclosed with my basal thermonitor and it doesn't look like mine. On the example they showed an elevated luteal surge that seemed to stay elevated...which I thought meant pregnancy...but then it showed a period after the elevated part. So now I'm confused, here's some questions for all you:
1)Just prior to ovulating should your temp dip then surge? (I think mine did)
2)After ovulation should temp stay elevated, right up to AF?
OR
3)Should temps decrease back to normal average temp range before AF comes?
4)If you are successful with ovulation what should your temps do? (I thought being successful meant temps continued to be elevated)
5)Before ovulation should your temps be somewhat irregular? (mine were up and down)
6)Does the surge mean you are ovulating or soon to be?(how long after surge starts are you fertile for)
7)I know that I've heard the wettest discharge day is supposed to be your most fertile, is that right?
8)After successful implantation what should discharge be like? (I didn't temp or chart before so don't recall)
9)On weekends, I like to sleep in, so should I still temp if I'm not temping at the same time, or should I skip those days?
GEEZ! I didn't think I had that many questions...sorry guys!
Thanks for your help...I would have thought having a 2 year old already would have made me knowledgable in this TTC stuff...but this temping/charting thing is all new to me, so I'm relying on all your expertise. ;)

Ok i will try and answer all your questions.
1) Dips but not by much 0.2 maybe and then goes up to around 37 - 37.2
2) post ovulatory phase - part between ovulstion and af will increase the body temp by 0.2 and 0.5 degrees c
3) yes, apparently after ovulation and before af your temp will fall back to normal
4) You are likely to be pregnant if your temp stays high at the end of your cycle and does not drop, a temp above 37.2 represents pregnancy
5)yes, up and down a bit say one day 36.69 then up maybe to 36.73 and poss up again then back down etc
6) when you get to 37 thats is ovulation,(apparently) so i think the surege means soon to be.
7) i thought egg whitey stuff was most fertile - is that what you mean by wettest discharge day?
8) Not sure on discharge but if you are pregnant your cervix remains high and grows soft instead of becoming lower and harder, your vagina can change colour from pink to pupley blue

Thanks Sammie! I'm anxious to go look at my chart again now, I have to wait to go home first though...I think I'll try to look up info on it on the net too...but seems like last time I looked, I didn't see alot of details on it, alot of vagueness but nothing more, you helped alot. Thanks, I'll keep you posted...
Still interested in hearing what everyone else has to say...sorry about how MANY questions I had, but any little bit of info helps, even if you only answer one point.

K....I posted this question in another TTC thread of mine but thought I'd put it on here too just in case...so if you answer in one don't need to do it in both....I hope that I am allowed to do that? They are both threads about charting. Let me know If I shouldn't have done that (posted the same question in both my threads, I know you can't start more than one thread with the same question, but both threads were already existing and originally started out separately)
" OK have another question...lastnight I was researching and I read that these charts don't predict when you are going to ovulate but when you DID ovulate...so does that mean after I see the dip, and spike temp that I already ovulated? They say that is why they recommend that you chart for 3 consecutive months so you can predict from previous charts when you are most likely to ovulate.....man am I confused ...Baby #1 was so much easier. If that's the case, how many days before this dip and spike are you most fertile? Man I hope I got lucky this month so I am not confused again next month.... Thanks all! "

Get the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It has some great areas to look over various charts so you can have something to compare to. It also explains in better detail how to use charting.
Another thing I dont get so wound up over it all. It doesnt help to get tied up over it all and obessed with it. It will only put undue stress on you and can throw off the charting.
Once you get the hang of charting it is rather easy and does help in ttc.

Hi everyone,
Well, I brought my chart to work today because I want to see what you all think about it, I am new at this temping thing so have no clue. How long after ovulation should I see my temps start to drop back to normal if I am not pregnant? I thought they were dropping because yesturday was slightly lower but today it is back up again.
I started charting just over a week into my cycle. Had AF from September 23-27. I started charting on the 7th. Normally I have always been a 28 day gal, but had a miscarriage in August. First cycle after that was 31 or 32 days.
Here are my temps:
Oct 7th 36.25
Oct 8th 36.07 wettest discharge day clear egg white, think I started ovulating
Oct 9th 36.51 still wet
Oct 10th 36.27 may not be valid, woke up earlier, was at hotel not home, room temps may have been different
Oct 11th 36.54 still wet but decreasing
Oct 12th 36.61 dry
Oct 13th 36.50 dry
Oct 14th 36.60 dry
Any feedback would be wonderful, I'd like to hear from pregnant and non-pregnant women about what their charts showed. Did it decrease right after, did it stay up like mine?
Thanks.

Thanks Blastoff, you are right, I didn't see it. I actually decided if I'm not pregnant this month I may go get that book, or rent it from the library if they have it. I've seen alot of good reviews about it on here. I'm not too wound up, at least not as much as I was last month. I think seeing what everyone else has experienced on their posts and having been let down with a BFN has taught me to just take each day as it comes. I think because I've been reading conflicting things about charts that I more or less want to know what to look for, I know it will be easier once I have a couple months to compare to but in the back of my head I keep wondering, K if I ovulated on the 8th, when should I see that temp start coming down if I'm not actually pregnant? It was up again today to 36.61. I have heard that it should start to go down right after ovulation if you aren't pregnant, and I've also heard it will stay elevated until AF, so I'm not sure what to think.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer me.

During the luteal phase(the days following O up to the start of your period) the temps are suppose to stay up. There can be dips but generally it stays up follwoing the spike for O. Now here is a little trick that can save you money on HPTs. If your temp stays up for 18 days after you O then there is a high chance you are pregnant. So if you are tempted to buy hpts look at your chart to see how long your temps have been up.
When I was charting( done it off and on while ttc #2 and #3) without fail my temps would drop a day or two before AF showed up. Most times it was the day before...there were many times that when my temp dropped the day before AF I would spend crying because I knew yet again I had failed to get pregnant.
In most cases the temp drops either a few days before AF starts or the day AF is due to start.
Your local library should have the book, that is where I first read it but then found a copy for myself real cheap. It taught me alot when I thought I knew alot.
Here is another trick I recently learned. Green tea helps with your CM. The past two cycles I have been drinking two cups a day and it has doubled my usual amount of CM. Fair warning that can rather messy.
