Hi, i wanted to know what kind of results anyone had after 2 leeps? how successful were they, how close together they were, and what kind of dysplasia did they have.
i had my first leep at the end of april, for CIN III . i just recently had my 4 month followup pap and colp. which showed severe dysplasia again. So now i will go for my second leep in a few weeks. I'm curious to see if there is anyone out there that had similar experiences, and how were the results. thanks

I've had 2 leeps already for cin III and I'm due for another soon  . I'm SOOOOOOO sick of it already! If it wasn't for the fact that I want one more child, I'd have a hysterectomy or I'd have them take my cervix; one or the other.

Isn't that the same thing as a LEEP?
why have they not suggested a cone ?

no the cone is cutting a cone shaped area w/ the abnormal cells out - im having it b/c the cells are up in the canal and near the center, the leep is a different procedure (not sure the details but im sure if you goo-le it you can read up) its less invasive and less risky/extreme, but not as effective if you have progressed abnormalities or repeat issues, or as in my case the cells are further up in the cervix or they arent sure. the cone is the only one where you can get a clear reading on the edges of the tissue with all the others sometimes you can get future misdiagnoses, its a little harder to do the readings b/c the heat/freezing/instruments kind of 'fry' the edges of the cells.

oh also sometimes they do both leep and cone together, i read somewhere. the freezing, laser are the minor treatments, then the leep, then the cone.

I had the LEEP done at the end of May, but my margins were not clear - I still have some "dirty" cells left in there on the upper part of my cervix (next to the uterus  ). I am really worried that this crap is going to spread to my uterus and I won't be able to have another baby :(. I even quit smoking and I'm popping vitamins, especially folic acid, like they're going out of style. I've even changed my eating habits, like eating more grains, veggies, nuts, fruits, etc. WHY ME - WHY CAN'T I BE NORMAL?!?!?!?!?!

are you talking about a cold knife cone or what? for my first leep it was considered a leep cone because they took out a pretty good amount.

I believe they can do different 'levels' of the leep and even use two different types of instruments, im not sure about referring to it as a cone - though if it removed a section it would make sense. I do believe the cold knife is the actual cutting without the leep, so maybe the leep can be a cone - its so confusing! If your abnormal cells were on the outside/around the cervix the leep makes sense to do. I have heard of a lot of repeat leeps though so my feeling is , id rather have one cone/knife, than say 2 or 3 leeps . My gyno said yesterday that the future readings are just so tough that it could mean so much more time and stress and re testing and money to get paps and colps b/c of the difficulties.
Kimrick, im so sorry that happened to you. What you said is EXACTLY what my gyno said and is why im getting the cold knife cone. She says when you cut the part out, the edges (margins ) are clean and easy to read, I was REALLY WORRIED about the problems with pregnancy from a cold knife cone but she said it is VERY rare, and then at 7-12 weeks if they see your cervix weakening from this they put a stitch in to secure it. Only other problem (rare) is more incidence of casearean (spelling?) In any case id be comfortable w/ the doctor doing the procedure and just keep up with the vitamins, diet, and all that stuff. When you try/get preg, make sure the dr, knows about the procedures too of course:)

The LEEP that I had is when they use a cauterizing intrument, like a cheese grater, and scrape the dirty cells from the uterus. The only reason my margins came back not clear was because he didn't have the instruments to get all the way up there.

thanks for the postings girls!!! it's nice to hear others in similar situations. although too bad any of us have to go through this.
When are your next procedures? or are you now waiting for results. I have to have the second leep on nov 2nd. this time i am "going under" . last time i just had it done in the drs office.
i asked the doctor if she thought that the severe dysplasia is left over or did it grow back. she said she is thinking it is left over, but can't rule out it grew back. she said she usually doesn't see it grow back that fast. ( i had the last leep done at the end of april) what do you think????
thanks agaiin,

I'm not sure when I'll have the next procedure done. I have an appointment w/ an oncologist on 11/04/04 so that he can re-pap me and we'll move from there.
