I'm 20 yrs old, i recently had my first pap done in the spring of this year, it came back abnormal and was referred to have my colposcopy done. my results just came back today and now i'm a CIN III from a CIN II, and i'm needing to have a leep done. I am a very active person and by what i've heard this doesn't work well with getting a leep done. I'm very scared considering my colposcopy made me bleed constant for two months afterwards. I"m still getting bad cramps every now and then too, and my periods are horrendous...
does any one have any suggestions to make this leep a little better???

Hi!
I just had my leep about a month ago. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be and it was over before I knew it. 10 minutes total. It took longer to set everything up than it did to do the actual proceedure.
Afterwards I took that day and the next to relax. After that I took it really easy, and I had no complications. It can be hard to stop an active life style, but just listen to your body. It really knows what is best for you. You will feel like yourself soon enough if you give yourself the time to heal. My doctor recommended no heavy lifting and excersise for a week, and that is about when I really started to feel normal again. I hope this helps.

my gyn says for cin 3 they almost always do a cone as its more effective and thorough for those progressed cells. leeps sometimes have to be repeated as they arent as agressive. i would look into it . would rather have one agressive treatment than 2-3 minor ones that would keep you out of comission more

thank you for your suggestions... it helps.
i'm wondering if i'm too young for this to be happening. i see a lot of women who've already have children. am i the only one who is this young??? are there any others???
I have also talked to my doctor and asked whether or not it was possible to be put under for my leep, she told me that i would have to wait another three months.. being a cin 3 do you think it is wise to not wait and just go ahead with the office procedure instead???? or will it change drastically from august to jan???

I am only 19 and underwent a leep in the beginning of September. I did it in the hospital as an outpatient procedure and it was like taking a 30 minute nap, in the hospital of course. It really was nothing, I had some cramping the remainder of the day and some of the next. I asked my doctor about being so young and he said its not an issue, only about 1% of women undergoing a leep have problems with child birth due to scaring or cervical weakness. You are not alone in the age catergory sweets, there are a lot of young people out there with the same situation.
It seems odd that you would have to wait 3 months to get it done going under. I found out my colpo results on a monday I believe, and was in the hospital for surgery that friday and I only had CIN 1 and a positive ECC. I suppose that every where is different, but if you rather have in it in the hospital I would call there and see how far they are scheduling out. From what I've read and heard on these boards it takes a long time to progress so I wouldn't think if you had to wait it would be that big of deal but I am not a doctor and that is something you would have to discuss with your doctor.

I recently read your concerns. Being a month+ from you last post, I was curious where you now stand. I hope you are feeling better.
I, recently, was diagnosed with a CIN2 from the colposcopy/biopies that were done & was sent to one of the top specialists in my area for a LEEP. The LEEP was performed about 3 weeks ago. I had not heard back from my dr & made contact on my own. The nurse who answered the line provided info from my lab work, and confirmed I now have CIN3. I have made several attempts to speak directly with my dr & have had no luck. I am 29 years old, no children. No contact from my dr has me highly stressed at this point. I am unsure of what questions to ask. Are there various stages of a CIN3? What is the next step? Any advise/input is greatly appreciated.

Hey Marie -
I am 29 too, no children, and had a LEEP done a week and a half ago. From what i know, if you have clear margins (per lab results from the LEEP), or even if you don't, they will schedule a pap in 3 months. you will be obviously rooting for a normal pap:) We all keep our fingers crossed for this.... But then again, it sounds like each doctor is diffrent, so yours might do something diffrent. Some people also have a follow-up after LEEP a couple of weeks to a month after, for the doctor to do a pelvic exam and see how things are heeling. I think i might have this, but it is not scheduled yet, so i am not certain.
In your post you mention that you have found one of the best doctors for a LEEP in your area. May I ask how? I would like to know the same thing for my area, and couldn't find anything...
Thanks and good luck, if i were you, i would call the doctor's office and demand to speak to the doctor himself!

Thank you for you input :)
After my annual exam, I was called back for my results. It was at that time, that I was told that the pap showed abnormal cells & that a biopsy was warranted. Once the lab results came back on the biopsies (15 biopsied specimens!!), the dr sat me down & told me the next step. It was my annual exam doc / gyn that advise me of the 'top obgyn/cancer specialist in my area'. I am in the Phila******a area & have heard from many people that if ever anything major is ever discovered wrong with your health, that the Univerisity of Pennsylvania Hospital is where you want to be. I was quite pleased when my doctor advised me to get the 2nd opinion & the LEEP from this hospital -- My original doc named the LEEP specialist to me. The only unfortunate part is that the doctor is highly recommended & his schedule is quite tough to get into - hence my not hearing back just yet!
I have known a handful of people that had been diagnosed with various types of cancers & ALL are doing fine (those who went to University of Penn Hospital). The 2 others (who sought other help) have not been given a clean bill of health STILL!... I highly suggest that you check out the ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) website: "abms.org". I found it very useful! Click on the 'links' button & all of the medical board webpages are listed. You don't necessarily have to become a member (as the homepage suggests). I used the AMA link, which allows you to search for a doctor by speciality (look for a doctor highlighted in green -- I believe this is how you know they are board certified). The doctors credentials are listed!! :D
I hope this helps! Enjoy your holidays & I hope you hear good news upon your follow up!!
