Last week I took a CT Scan because last year they found a cyst on my kidney. My doctor told me at that time not to worry about it, that tons of people have cysts on their kidneys and normally they don't do anything. Anyway, he told me that to be on the safe side and to check if it is growing, that he wanted me to have a follow up CT scan in the next year, which I just did. So I called the Dr's office yesterday so that the Dr. would call me back later for my results. Anyway, his assistant called me and told me that he could not give me my results yet because he had not heard back from the Oncologist and once he hears back from him/her then he could let me know what is going on.
So, I am trying not to freak out. Is this just routine? I mean, my thinking that if there was an issue with my kidneys he would have called a Urologist, not the oncologist. I should hear something by tonight if all goes well, but I can’t concentrate on anything right now. I don’t know how I am going to get through work this morning.
Thanks.

Just wanted to check with you to see how things went? I too have a kidney cyst, 5.1 cm to be exact. I just went for a second opinion in regards to this and I am still waiting to hear back from the dr. I know how you feel. So how did it go? Thanks.....Lisa

Lisaa,
All seems to be OK. It turned out it was a routine thing and they wanted to compare the difference between last years CT with this years. They are still treating it as no big deal unless it grows. It is stable from last year. I hope you don’t have any problems either! Thanks for asking.

Half of the population over 50 yrs of age have kidney cysts and normally there is nothing done as they are harmless unless they begin to interfere with another organ.

Yes but I am only 31 and my second opinion seems to think it's causing problems with my adrenal gland. But if you have been not feeling well for awhile and they find a kidney cyst is it something that should be explored a bit more. The fact that they are common makes drs over look them when in fact it just could be from the "incidental finding" that wording always gets to me.
