I was just wondering if anyone who has had a massage ever experienced anything like this? They were having a special at the salon where I get my hair done for a 60 minute massage. I made an appointment and had my first massage a few months ago. It felt wonderful at the time. ahhhhhhh Anyway, for 4 or 5 days after my massage I felt awful. My whole body ached and I had extreme fatigue. Not achy muscles just an all over achiness and tiredness. It was relieved somewhat with Motrin. I couldn't believe I felt like this from the massage so a couple of months later I got another one. And guess what? The exact same symptoms again. ugh
I have always heard that massage is good for your circulation and so I thought this would be a good thing. I totally relate my achiness to the massage especially after getting the same symptoms twice.
Has anyone experienced this? Kat

It could be a few things from inexperience of the person to pressure on trigger points of the muscles. I would think since it has happened more than once that it is simply working muscles that arent used often. There are different types of massage so you might want to go with one that is less intense. Good luck

I agree with Mommy. Any use of muscles, through message or excercise, can result in aches and pains. Also, when muscles are massaged, toxins are released into the bloodstream, which can also cause feelings of sickness. In this case, if it was your first massage, the symptoms would be worse than subsequent massages because you have a large build-up of toxins in the muscles.

So do you think massage is a good or bad thing for people with diabetes? I have read where diabetes has something to do with inflammation. I thought maybe it got my whole body sore and gave me some inflammation throughout my whole body which made me feel achy. This sounds crazy but I am starting to think this. Even if i over exercise I will get the all over achiness and my numbers will be higher for a few days. Kat

I was so glad to read JD's post as it was right on the money. Our mucles, when unused, fill with toxins. I know one of the major sources of pain with exercise is the release of lactic acid. Proper massage is a good thing for anyone. You want to make sure the person is trained and also be open with them about areas that already hurt.
Diabetes is an autoimmune disease. Inflammation can be a sign of so many things besides diabetes and inflammation is not a common sign in diabetics. You might want to research with your Dr any inflammation you might have.
Personally, I rarely get massages as I don't get the chance but when I do, I use it as an indicator of areas I need to work on. Pain isn't always a bad thing
