Hi everyone, I just started taking yasmin 2 months ago and iv have been having some difficulties with it. First it was vomiting or nasuea every morning almost continually. Then I started having muscle aches, trouble sleeping, dhiarrea, bad headachs and vaginal irritation as well as the vomiting. However, the scary one is major depression. I have never in my life experienced any type of depression but recently (while on yasmin) I have really been struggeling with it. I just recently moved away to school and thought that might have been the cause of it but when I looked up the side effects of yasmin I noticed deppression was one of them. I bought 3 months of the medication and Im hoping the symptoms will dissapear after a while. I was just wondering if anyone had experenced these sysmptoms, mainly depression, while on yasmin and then had them go away after a few months of use. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated! Thank-you.

i would say wait another month. it usually take about 3 month for your body to get used to them. if your continuing i would say stop and talk to your doctor and see if there is something else you can take
BorderGirl 10-14-2004, 01:01 PM
I had it for like the first 2 weeks. Any bc pill can cause it. It sounds like it is bad. I'd call your doctor.

Im on Yasmin too, I have been on it for a little over a year. After reading yout post it made me think, I have been so depressed for so long that I had finally went to the dr for depression, never thinking it could be the pill. Wow, thanks for your post, I thik I will have my birth control changed now. So, I guess the answer to your question, yes, I am depressed too now after taking this pill and I was nautious, but I started taking it right before bed and that fixed that problem. Maybe Yasmin isnt worth it.
kermitjmb 10-16-2004, 11:00 AM
I just started taking Yasmin! I know everyone is different, so I am hoping these side effects go away within 3 months. I am going to give it a try. I am sorry that you have had that side effect. I would definately call your doc.
Well I'm glad to see other people experiencing the same problems (that's not really nice to say, but you all know what I mean!) I've been on Yasmin for 4 months and liked it at first, but in the last couple of days, especially today I have SEVERE depression and my libido is shot!
Is anyone out there that is on Yasmin taking any anti- depressants? I have been on Paxil since 1998 and it's something I will stay on. I told the doc my concerns about being a depressed person by nature and going on BCPs. Two doctors assured me that it would be fine to take both as long as they were 2 hours apart and that if I had any effect on my depression it would be a positvie one and make me even out even more! NOT. I can deal with the acne, break through bleeding, sore breasts ect, but not depression. The only positive I have to say about Yasmin is that my breasts really filled out and got huge!
I'm assuming it's ok to come of BCPs cold turkey??? Any tips on how to come off them and what I should expect?
Thanks!

i HAVE been depressed.. but that was before Yasmin and i can usually tell that its for a reason... sometimes i just dont know.. but usually im worried about something deep down inside and dont know it. yasmin actually HELPED me not get nausea and throw up.. i used to SO much every period and now it stopped it. i would lose weight during every period b/c i wouldnt eat b/c i would just throw it all up anyway. some people have a lot of bad effects, and some go away with time.. it just depends and you just have to try.
however, i think yasmin MAY have made my skin sensitive to the sun.. not everywhere.. just my stomach/back and areas usually covered up.. so now that i have been going to a tanning salon (just started) i have been getting a rash so i think maybe its the birth control pill. the rest of my skin never gets irritated i guess since it's used to it.. so im hoping it will do the same thing on other places!! anybody had that happen to them?

Yasmin is high progestional which means mood swings, increase in appetite - pms like symptoms. Ask your doctor to switch you to another monophasic birth control pill. Also causes loss in libido and, in some women, vaginal dryness.
BoOtYLiCiOuSbAbE 11-03-2004, 03:50 PM
Oh but i have not experienced any of this now! i dont get mood swings from the pill and i definitely DONT have an increase in appetite or loss... (have not gained weight.. only lost from eating better & exercise). and i NEVER get PMS! honestly.. lol even guys tell me. i havnet really had problems with lost of libido or vaginal dryness either.. i guess i am lucky!!

Today will only be my fourth day of taking Yasmin and I am sooo tired! I'm also nauseous even though I take my pill right before I go to bed. I hate being this tired, and I don't remember feeling like this when I was on Estrostep. I switched to Yasmin because I was having breakthrough bleeding with Estrostep and because I liked what I heard about it helping with water weight gain. Does Yasmin make anyone else tired like this?

LittleGreek25:
I am currently taking Estrostep FE & as I posted on here yesterday I was down to the last 2 or 3 pills in my pack (before my placebo pills, which I was going to skip this month, since my doc said it would be ok to go up to 3 months, no longer, before I took my placebo pills to get my peroid) and started to spot. I have been taking Estrostep since September & my doc told me that it was normal to have breakthrough bleeding through the 1st 3 months of taking it. Is that true or did you have spotting more oftent than this? I have been told the spotting could be from the fact my body is still trying to get use to the BC and then I've heard the hormone levels may not be high enough. Do you have any info about this BC as to whether to wait it out till the end of November (which will be my 3rd month) or do you recomend that I speak w/my doc about maybe switching. Any feedback that you or anyone else who has taken Estrostep FE would be Great!! Thanks!
BoOtYLiCiOuSbAbE 11-04-2004, 10:56 PM
i have been on yasmin and have not felt tired from it... i used to feel tired even after good sleep but that was b/c i was not getting enough iron and a multivitamin helped quite a bit! maybe this will just happen at first and the tiredness will go away as you get used to a new pill?? i hope so! good luck.
littlegreek25 11-05-2004, 06:27 PM
LLA1982,
When I was on Estrostep I didn't have any spotting until my fourth month taking it. I have tried a lot of different bc pills-Orthotricyclene, OrthoCept, Loestrin, Lo-Ovral, Ovral, and Estrostep, and I've had breakthrough bleeding with ALL of them, but not until my fourth or fifth month of taking them. When I told my doctor, she switched me to another pill (that's why I've tried so many) because she said the hormone levels weren't high enough and I could possibly get pregnant. I was on Depo for a couple of years, but it made me really moody, so I tried the pill again (that's when I tried the Estrostep). I am currently on my fifth day of Yasmin. I'm having nausea and bad stomach pains when I get hungry from it, and I'm sooo tired, but I'm hoping these are just temporary side effects. However, if I start spotting again with the Yasmin, I will be trying another kind of bc. If I were you, I would give my doctor a call and see what they think. Good luck to us both! :)

I was really tired initially but it did go away quickly
Colleen04 08-07-2005, 03:56 PM
I was on Estrostep FE for 3 months (first time taking pill) and this past month I just switched to Yasmin. And I am not going to continue it. Yasmin makes me so completely nasuses the morning after I have a couple drinks, or even if I don't. There were days I was dry heaving because of the BC. I switched drom Estrostep because I was getting nauses at night. And now with Yasmin it's in the morning. (I take the pill at night). I'm currently taking seizure medications and I don't think BC mixes well. But when it comes to Yasmin, I just wasnt a fan.

I was really depressed the first month on Yasmin.

My Dr. recommended Yasmin b/c I was having vaginal dryness. He assured me it would cure my problem. I had been on Loestrin 1/20 for a number of years without any problems other than the described above. After only three months on Yasmin, my breast have grown nearly a full cup size and my waist and hips have thickened quite a bit in addition to the 8 pounds that have crept on. For me, Yasmin is not worth the weight gain in my upper body particularly when the vaginal dryness remained the same! Ironically, several of my friends were also recommened Yasmin by their Dr.'s and have experienced simular weight gain.
cherryflamer05 08-08-2005, 04:35 AM
Hi I have had a lot of the similar effects as you are having with Yasmin. First i started out having nasuea so i switched the time i took the pill to 11:00 at night instead of morning, which seemed to help with the nasuea. So far i'm in my 5th month and i seem to be getting more and more effects as a i go along. Out of the past two months i have been having extreme dhiarrea, not being able to sleep, and bad headaches, as well as senstivity to foods, nasuea as well. I'm going to the doctor on monday to switch my pills. As of what i have read everyone seems to be having problems with this pill. Plus when i would be sick was around my period, usually the week before, the week of, and the week after.

Hello everyone. I feel so relieved to have found this website. I loved Yasmin while I was on it. I was on it for a little over 1 yr. I didn't gain any wait or have any side effects. Life was great. About 7 months ago my husband and I decided to go off birth control and try to conceive. I've had terrible acne for the past couple of months that just keeps popping up on my face- I never really had acne before I took the pill. This really sucks. Plus I am still unable to have a normal cycle. Some months it will be 30 days, then go to 34, then 40, then 35, then 45, it's crazy! I can't figure it out, I was never like this before the pill. I wish I had known this was going to happen. So now that I see some people are having simillar problems I feel a little less frantic. I guess there's hope. :)

On Yasmin I completely lost ALL of my sex drive and have become extremely depressed and anxious all the time...not myself at all. It was a gradual process though, so it took me while to realize what was happening to me. I am also hungry all the time, and gained almost 10 lbs since I've been on it. I also have vaginal dryness (never a problem before) But my skin has never been better, and I never ever get cramps.
mysticmemories 06-15-2006, 06:55 AM
I've been on it a month, and within the first two weeks I found this AWFUL site on it which convinced me it was poison. For the first two weeks I had stomach cramps, and it has made me tired even when I've had a decent nights sleep. I'm also very moody, happy one minute, pissed off the next, sometimes I can even feel it happening. Another thing; massive mental foginess, sometimes I can't even understand what's going on around me, increased migraines.
I'm not even planning to have a period on it, I'm going straight back to my other pill. I'm too scared I'll get sick.

I've been on Yasmin for a little over 2 months, and yesterday was the first day I started experiencing real side-effects. I'm having terrible cramps, really awful, and I'm not used to cramping. I'm actually a little that it's not the pill and something more serious, but it feels just like the few times I have had menstral cramps in the past. I'm due to start my period ... that is, I'll be taking the last of my active pills ... but the end of next week. I hate this tho', I'm not used to cramping, and it really bugs me, because it's stressing me out that it could be something worse. I was pretty content with Yasmin too thus far, so this is a little disappointing if it is the pill's fault :(

I have been taking Yasmin for about 3-4 months. I am just now noticing side affects. I am always running back and forth to the bathroom. I have to be really careful about what I eat. I wasnt havent stomach proboems like this before I started taking Yasmin. I am also noticing I am alot more depressed! I am already diagnosis as bi polar, but now I feel really depressed. Another thing is that the Yasmin basically made my vaginal secretion non existant! I am so dry when I try to have sex it hurts like heck unless I have lubricant this too never happened to me before I started tkaing Yasmin. I think I am going to stop taking it!!!
Can you just stop taking it or would it cause more side affects? I am in my seoncd week on my pills and just want to stop cold turkey......

These are typical side effects with drosperione. Until people start calling the FDA and reporting these side effects, it will continue to be on the market. Consider yourself lucky that you are stopping it now, usually in about a year, people complain of weight gain and major hair loss.

I thought I was the only one!! I was on OrthoCyclen for about 2 years. No prior acne whatsoever, had flawless skin and after I got off the pill my face exploded. What have you been doing to curb your acne? I've been struggling since I got off the pill last July, so a year has passed and still horrific acne. I can only assume it's from the pill. You are the only one I've heard to have exactly the same issues. I got off the pill to try natural family planning which is wonderful, but I just can't deal with my face the way it is. I heard yasmin was good for acne... ortho made me gain like 30 pounds, so I just don't know what to do. Any advice??
gibbies 07-30-2006, 08:07 PM
I've been on Yasmin for two months. For maybe a week, I was nauseated in the morning, but now that is gone. I went on it for acne, and it has cleared it up a little bit... but it really has mainly changed the type of acne I have....kinda strange.
I have problems sleeping at night; but still the next day I stll have tons of energy (maybe cause I drink alot of propel water). I get drymouth alot, use the bathroom alot (can't figure out what foods make me go), and I get hungry but nothing every sounds good.
I run 5-6 miles a day, don't eat as much as usually do since nothing sounds appealing, but some how I am gaining a little weight, and I'm extremely frusterated. Will this go away?

Im glad Im out of it now I have to fix this problems it left me with

Thank god for this site! I thought I was crazy, but I am having similar side effects from Yaz-I have taken 2 preg test because my husband and I were sure we were expecting (nausau all the time, cant eat, I smell odd things, my vision is shot, my muscles hurt, and I feel out of it all the time). I keep calling my OBGY and he says "that's normal and will regulate in a few months" and that is it. I can't get in to see him to change the pill. I tried the ring thing and had terrible migraines with that, so he moved me to Yaz. The best thing I tried was a low dose pill while breast feeding but he won't perscribe it again because he says it won't do anything to prevent pregnancy-I did have a lot of spotting on it. But on Yaz, I haven't had a period since I started. I think I will cause my PMS cranks up to a 11.5 but then nothing. This pill is horrible!!!
I am making my doc see me and give me something else. It is affecting my job because I am in a fog at work.
Any recomendations for a pill that doesn't trigger as many migraines or lead to breakouts?
1nceagain 08-25-2006, 02:27 PM
I feel the same way, being very tired from the yasmin. I have been on it for 10 days now and I'm hoping feeling this way is just temporary while my body adjusts to the switch. I was on ortho tri cyclen lo for 5 months before this and I guess that wasn't too bad because of the lower dose of hormones. But on the yasmin I have NO ENERGY! I feel like it takes such and effort to even sit, I just want to lay down and sleep all the time. Does anyone know why this is or have the same problem?
DiscordiaSeven 08-31-2006, 04:00 AM
Wow. I'm shocked to hear everyone's reactions to Yasmin.
I myself have been on it for a year, and several friends of mine are on it as well. None of us have experienced ANYTHING as horrible as I'm reading on this board.
The only thing close to a side effect I had was sensitive skin the first month. My libido was also a little low, but after two months, it went back to normal. Other than that, the little acne I used to have completely cleared up, I haven't gained a pound, and my cramps are totally MIA.
I was on Ortho for a while and I hated it. I was sick all the time and I gained weight. I switched to Yasmin a little over a year ago, and I've never felt better.
Remember, the pill is different for everyone, and sometimes it takes a few tries to find one that's right for you. :-)

Hi
I'm having a lot of problems with Yasmin which is weird cause I've been using it on and off for 2 years now. I started taking it 2 years ago in Turkey because I had a cyst on my right overy. After 6 moths it cleared up so I stoped using it but now I'm in Canada and I have a boyfriend so I went to the doctor and got Yasmin again because I thought my body is used to it. I started taking it on my first day of period like the doctor said. It sounded weird cause the last time I used it I started it as soon as my period was over. It's been 13 days since I've been using Yasmin and I'm still on my period. I'm getting cramps, I'm always tired, I eat a lot and I'm experiencing severe depression. I don't know what to do. I'm going to see my doctor in a couple of days.
jen52983 10-12-2006, 05:45 PM
After reading various posts on Yasmin over the last couple months, I've come to the conclusion that girls who never before experienced depression prior to Yasmin use--do when on this brand of BC.. and those who have experienced depression no longer do when on Yasmin.
At least that was the case for me. My depression and severe mood swings are the reason I chose Yasmin. In the beginning I was nauseous (thats common with most BCs) but I never vomitted. Eating something before taking it will help. That was the only negative I experienced...
Otherwise Yasmin has done wonders for me. I just wish my insurance company covered it. I'm paying full price.. ick!!
Try and stick with it for at least another month. If your side effects don't at least ease up, then maybe talk to your doctor about switching.
Good luck!

I have been taking Yasmin for about a year, I think. It was prescribed by my dermatologist and my skin has never looked better. I have also been feeling pretty depressed for a year but never made the connection. Seeing all these messages seems to confirm that they may be connected. I have these days a couple of times a week, sometimes more, where I feel like I haven't fully woken up. This lasts all day and I feel foggy and find it hard to focus. I end up just lying around staring into space, watching TV or taking a nap, and I get really quiet and barely talk. I get really irritable, too, cry at the slightest thing, and hopeless feeling, like it will never get better. I went to the doctor because of this extreme tiredness, thinking maybe it was mono or something, and they ran a ton of tests but nothing was wrong physically. I cry about once a day and sometimes feel anxious about leaving my house. If I have to go somewhere alone, even shopping or to go get lunch, I feel very reluctant to leave the house, and once I get somewhere I only want to go back home. I went to get lunch today and on my way to the checkout line I just didn't feel up to dealing with purchasing something (writing this, it sounds ridiculous) so I contemplated putting my groceries back and going home. This happens all the time, like I just want to go home, be alone, and lie down. I thought the depression starting was linked to my going to college, like the original poster, but it seems it was related to Yasmin. I'm actually surprised my doctor didn't make the connection since it seems Yasmin quite commonly makes people depressed.

I went on Yasmin specifically to help with the depression I experienced from PMS. For the first 2 weeks I had really bad nasuea, but it subsided if I took the pill with a snack. The nausea and the cost are the only negatives I've experienced so far.
I'm in my third month and my PMs is almost non-existant, as well as my cramps. My depression and severe mood swings are also no longer a problem.
I'm wondering if Yasmin has had any kind of effect on my bladder! I seem to need to use the facilities alot more often!! But it's only when I'm at work.. so I'm not sure.
I've become paranoid though after reading other people's post about hair loss.. I'm keeping an eye on that.
Otherwise my experience with this brand of BC has been great. Give it at least 3 months.. your body my still just be adjusting. Good luck!
