I'm 21 and I've had A.D.D. my whole life but was never initially diagnosed until now. My doctor prescribed me 10mg of adderall, to be taken around 5-6 at night because my classes go from 7-10pm. I was wondering the side effects of adderall. I've looked some up but I feel hearing stories and info from others on adderall is the best info I can get. So any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

i would say from my experience...i had very good results at the begining, then i started feeling i needed more, like the initial dose wasn't enough anymore, after they upped my dose i started feeling like crap, so my advice to you would be try to stay on the lowest dose possible, because too much gave me problems..i am not on extended release, so i take it 2 times a day, the higher my dose, the worse was the "coming down" (adderall is a stimulant) when my med. would ware off i would get a real lousy depressed feeling and also extreme fatigue. smaller dosage helps. i believe i never needed a higher dose in the first place, but you can get a tolerance fairly quickly. i was also only diagnosed a year ago after going back to school. i only take the adderall on the weekdays(for school) and skip on the weekends, that helps alot with the tollerance issue. and i have cut myself back to half what i was started on (10mg like you-- i was started on 20mg which i think was too much) if you maintain a balance, just enough to help, but not too much, adderall can be really helpful:) this is my experience and everyone is not the same, just thought i would share. take care

My son (12) just started 10 mg of Adderall today. I'll let you know my experiences from this point forward but I have no history with this med. Good luck to you!

Each person's responses will be different but some of the side effects we saw were:
- initial weight loss & loss of appetite (leveled out about 6 weeks into meds)
- some difficulty sleeping
- dried mucus membranes causing coughing fits (humidifier & air filter eliminated this problem although Z has a prescription)
- minor dehydration (now drinks 16 oz. before bed)
- excessive emotionalism (leveled out after 30 days, BUT comes back if he misses more than 1 dose).
Overall, it makes Z's life easier (he's almost 14), socially & academically. He's on 10mg of the XR and we will keep him at that level for as long as possible.

be very careful with adderall. and make sure you don't drink when you are on it, i had a pretty bad panic attack. it's like legal speed, but for people who have A.D.D, it somehow clears the fog in your head. It helps you focus, etc. 10 mg isn't much, especially once a day, so you should be fine. good luck!

Hey,
Well I am now going to be 19 years old and I have been on aderall since I was just about 16. Although this is a different case i take a 25 mg pill, and that dose was moved down becuase when i started taking aderall i was taking a 40 mg pill. The side affects of aderall vary, when I first started taking aderall, I would eat before i took the pill, and then i was not very hungry for the rest of the day, but very thirsty and having to pee very often. At first you could be emotional, although I found that It came and went. My body now is adjusted to aderall, and the only difference is that i can now feel the difference of focusing. The sleeping issue is different, I normall take mine at 6 am and by 11 pm i can usually begin to fall asleep the later you take the pill the longer you will be awake. Try taking the pill earlier in the morning, to adjust your sleeping habbits, also i recommended not taking it on the days that you dont need it, if you dont have school, or work, or whatever. YOUR BODY WILL ADJUST, BUT IT DOES TAKE TIME, YOU WILL FEEL WIERD, AND VERY QUIET BUT THINGS WILL CHANGE I PROMISE

I am 32 and have been taking Adderall xr sinced March- 20mg (started one 10). Side effects were insomnia, dry mouth, loss of appetite, weight loss. All were gone in 2 months except the loss of appetite. I still have trouble getting to sleep some nights, or if I wake up I can't get back to sleep, but it's not bad enough to stop. The benefits outweigh the side effects.

LeaG, hello, my son is 12 and weighs 177 lbs 5'7" big boy. He just started Adderall at 10mg at 7am in the morning only on school days. He only has taken it for 4 days. Tomorrow he gets 15mg for a week then the next week it goes to 20mg. I asked the doctor if he should take it this weekend (this was his first weekend) and the doctor said to just stick to school days for now. Since this is a stimulant I guess it really makes sense. It's not like the med has to build up in your system to become effective right?!
