Hello All:

I am at Week Four post surgery, and my cast came off today. My OS put me in an aircast and told me I didn't have to wear it inside. My ankle is ugly and sore but NO CAST! I am shuffling around.

I have some range of up and down motion but no side to side motion. I start PT in 2 weeks. I am supposed to do some isometric exercises.

All the best,

Rose

Congrats! Isn't it a great feeling? I got my cast off five weeks after surgery, but I went into a boot. I think it was eight or ten weeks before I could do any side to side movement. Hope your recovery goes well!

Wow.. I'm jealous.. I was in a cast for 6 weeks, then the boot. Sounds like you are doing well though. It will look better eventually. My PT did massage each session to help bring the swelling down, which helped a lot. Just try to be patient with the healing and do the exercises your PT gives you. Good luck!

Thanks for the good wishes!

I think my OS is pretty aggressive as far as treatment (week in splint, 3 in cast, 2 in aircast/walker thing then PT). But so far so good.

I do have a little nerve zing in my ankle when I touch a certain point, and I don't know if that will go away or not.

I am soooo happy because even with sleeping pills I wasn't sleeping very well and with the aircast I can take it off. I have slept through the night twice! Yipppeee!

The nerve problems should get better eventually. It can take quite a while (months) but it should get better very gradually. If it starts getting worse instead of better see your doc, but otherwise don't worry about it.
