Hi

Can you tell me the cheapest way to ensure I am getting all the right EFAs in my diet please? I am on a low budget and I cannot afford to buy hemp seed oil capsules. Is it sufficient to rely on oily fish alone to get all my EFAs?

Thanks.

Cheapest is a cod liver oil LIQUID (I use Twin Lab NORWEGIAN unflavored). You take a tsp a day (5 ml.) to get a gram of EPA + DHA and this costs about $6 for 12 ounces (72 doses)...Thus the cost is $6/72 or $.08 a day. Shop for price because you CAN pay a LOT more.

You CANNOT find cheaper than my method (and I'm a cheapskate- so I speak true!:D:D).

Thanks zip2play :)

Now this is where I'm going to show up my ignorance, but I thought EPA and DHA are both Omega 3 oils. Is that right? In which case, what about Omega 6 oils? Are they essential too, and does cod liver oil contain Omega 6?

Thanks again.

Zinc,
You get Omega-6's in great abundance whenever you eat any polyunsaturated oils. The problem is ONLY getting enough Omega-3's...But for interest's sake a tsp. of cod liver oil contains much more Omega-6 than Omega-3 as does every oil.

Does the Cod Liver Oil taste good?

I have heard take cod during the winter, fish oil during the rest of the year.

Cod Liver oil contains a lot of vitamin D, if you live in a sunny environ, such as where I live Arizona, you are not advised to take cod liver oil since you can OD on D since you get enough from sun exposure the way it is here.

I live in England so I don't think I have any worries about too much sunshine! :D

However, I do take a multi-vitamin tablet every day which contains 100% of the recommended intake of vitamin A (in the form of retinol, not beta-carotene.) If I were to take cod liver oil as well, might I be in danger of overdosing on vitamin A?

No danger at all, Zinc.
