Hello All - My doctor and I met yesterday and determined that I should stop my metaformin (glucophage) after being on it for nearly a year now. My numbers were only slightly higher from one blood test to the next. August was: Glucose 78, this week to 84 (within range!) Triglycerides have always and remained high, from 267 to 256 (always high) and insulin fasting levels from 10 to 14 (still within range). My cholesterol has been 190, 222 and 239 so we're just going to try the lipitor for two months (10 mg) only and with diet and exercise try to see what the numbers are. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated - what diets for insulin resistance are folks with diabetes on to try to lose weight (I'm 5-5 and now up to 187) - my question (which I don't think she had the answer to) is just what does metaformin do for the blood work - where should we have seen an improvement? THANKS ! Bless, Deb

I went on a low carb diet when I was diagnosed with diabetes, even though I didn't need to lose weight. I did lose 30 pounds, my triglycerides dropped from 151 to 72, which reduced my total cholesterol and kept my blood sugar in a desirable range. I think if you tried that, you wouldn't need to take any cholesterol lowering drugs.

What low carb diet would you recommend? It seems my body is fighting me no matter what I'm trying to do and it's very frustrating to say the least! Many thanks, Deb
